I thought it was a D50. I purchased a 1975 Guild that I thought was a D50. Turns out it's slightly smaller.

Yep, that looks like the same bold grain type of rosewood we’ve seen on the few other G75s that have surfaced. Clearly they pulled a very special lot of wood for this particular model run. I’d love to know more about it. Perhaps in Vol II?

Perhaps, but Volume I covers up to 1977, and I think the G75 was out of production by then. That is pretty rosewood though, much like the back of my '73.

I think they were produced around 1976/77 so may or may not have been accounted for.

Did you determine if the back of your 73 is EIR? It does look the same as on those G75s.

Definitely EIR, verified by @hansmoust. My '70 has an EIR back, but BRW sides, and you can tell.

MarkAnthony, what a sweet find. I just bought a F20 from a member here for a smaller sound. What you've gotten your hands on, accidently, would have been perfect, but I had no idea that Guild had made a 3/4 size dreadnought. Good luck with it and most importantly have FUN!

That's a pretty cool dread. I bet it sound way better than Martin's 3/4 dread.
Nice score!!!

Man, I found this thread through Google and just had to make an account to reply (should’ve already had an account; I own this guitar, a songbird, and an F-512). I was reading the title of the post here and thought to myself “this must be some other me from an alternate reality” - this is exactly what happened to me earlier this year.

Purchased a “D-50” from a family that didn’t know any better, and the guitar turned out to be a G-75. Except mine has a double pick guard from factory. The story was told to me as such: the guitar was owned by a player in the Philadelphia Orchestra, then sold to its previous owner who passed away where it then sat as an heirloom.

The case may be cooler than the guitar, with some original D.B Cooper newpaper clippings glued onto it from the previous owner. Such an oddly shaped case too. Only things I changed were the bridge pins and installed the L.R Baggs Anthem.

Hey disgruntledowen, First of all welcome to LTG and I hope you stick around here. Lots of Guild knowledge along with knowledge on most things. Great group of people here!
This G75 thing is beginning to peak my interest. I thought that 2 recent guitar purchases were going to more than enough esp. the F20 from a member here but, I've got an itch that's started and I may have to scratch it. I've heard that the G75 is not a common model so that makes it even more intriguing.
Again, Welcome and have fun!

Welcome Owen.

I presume you mean you own this model of guitar, as I thought Mark Anthony had bought the G-75 and done work on it.

Thanks for the pictures! Looks great!

Welcome Owen. Cool story and cool guitar. I don’t recall seeing one with double pick guards. Then again, I’ve only seen a few.

Thank you for the welcome! Huge Guild fan here. The G75 is interesting for sure, it certainly has its strengths in a live environment. I was somewhat disappointed when I realized it wasn’t a D-50, but it’s not going anywhere now. I’m currently itching for an F-40/F-50, haha.

Very nice and welcome to LTG! How do you like the G-75? Does it have a typical dreadnaught voice or is it different?
Oh I love it! It’s the only dreadnaught I own. I’ve grown attached to it and have a sort of underdog mentality towards it. It certainly has the voice, it’s just less bass heavy. It really shines with a pickup. That was one of the first things my luthier said to me, it really is great played live. Of which, I believe that’s why this model was originally produced if I remember correctly.

Thank you! When I first bought it months ago, I was looking through forums to find other people that had one and found one other with double pick guards. But only that one. My band and I call it Cooper due to the case.
