Thanks for posting this. I have very fond memories of Richie.

From 1967-71, I attended college in downtown NYC (Baruch School of City College - now called Baruch College). The school was an office building and the student center a former small courthouse. Richie had a special relationship with a student center official, and he would show up often in the student lounge to talk, play a song or two, etc. He also performed in the auditorium two or three times with the same backup musicians he had at Woodstock. The last time I saw him perform there was in 1971 - I was the GM of the college radio station and spoke with him right after he finished his performance. I don't think I ever saw anyone sweat so much!

Really "opened up", huh?   But what's the chewing gum for? To soften up the treble?

Great stuff, isn't it, SG? I'd love to meet him some day. Richie was the opening act at Woodstock. It's hard to even imagine a more iconic figure.

This is the first paragraph of the article.

"As many of you are aware, in April 1997 we moved Hamer Guitars from our Arlington Heights, Illinois facility to New Hartford, Connecticut. New Hartford had previously only housed Ovation guitars. A couple of years ago we moved Guild guitars from Tacoma, Washington to New Hartford. As a result, New Hartford now houses three distinct boutique guitar manufacturers, all in their separate and unique space."

So now Guild is a boutique manufacturer? :?: What does that mean, anyway? :?: :?:

Dog,

Gotta' agree that "boutique" is a misnomer for Guild and for Ovation as well. Hamer probably does fit the bill. The posting was in a Hamer blog, by the way, so I think they can be forgiven. ;)

That probably explains why we can't find any real Guilds in mainstream music stores. We need to start looking in boutiques! :)

Squawk, great story. Did you record your conversation for the radio station? Do you still have it?

I tried to go to a boutique once, but I mispronounced it, and now my better half says I'm banned from boutiques. Something about my pronunciation set off alarms. How was I supposed to know it's not pronounced booty-que -- ya know, rhymes with barbecue. Sorry, I know, lame. . . .

I always thought Guild was the opening act at Woodstock. That makes it easier to remember that guy who was playin' one.

Yes it was recorded - but I doubt I still have it. Possible I might have a clip that was part of a sound collage we did - I'll check that out.
