My 1989 D-25-12 string, has the Guild and the Chesterfield thingy inlaid on the headstock. I've can't seem to find a 6 string D-25 with an inlaid name on the headstock.
I'm very shallow and really don't like the sticker "Guild" on most lower end acoustics. Did they make D-25 6 strings with inlaid headstocks?

I think that was just a difference in trim between the 6- and 12-string D-25s. I know the silk-screened peaked Guild logo on the 6-string D-25s persisted through the 70s and 80s... don't now if it changed later (Corona?).

While the Chesterfields and G-shields definitely look classy... I like the gold silk-screen logos on my dreads just fine!

OTOH... I never really grew to appreciate the "tapered" headstock introduced in the late 80s... preferring the older "domed" or "center-raised" version.

My 85 D17 has inlay. I've often wondered about this as well. I used to have a D25 with inlay, was a late 80s, but i don't remember the exact year. Someone here knows!

Hans... :?:

I thought that as the D25 and D35 were 'entry' model dreds (though much sought after now) they only had the GuildV and no chesterfield on the headstock - which I think is called 'Cloud Top' as it looks a bit like a cumulus cloud. I would guess that if you did find a D25 or D35 with a chesterfield it might have been added :?:

Lots of D-25 12 strings have the inlaid Guild and Chesterfield thingy. Do they all?

I saw an Elderly Instruments ad that said the Chesterfield inlay on the DV-52 was "pearloid". I believe they were actually MOP :? I thought all the old Guild headstock inlays were MOP...

According to Beesley's Guitar History vol 5: Guild Guitars the D-25-12 was introduced (in '87? books at home) with (inlaid) Guild and Chesterfield logo on the headstock.

Perhaps in my earlier post I should have said that six string D-25s continued with the gold silk-screened GUILD logo from the early 70s into the early 80s... I know I have seen them that way during that time span. I don't know when, or if they changed later. Also, I seem to recall seeing early D-25s and D-35s from the late 60s into perhaps ~1970 with pearl(oid?) inlaid GUILD logo, but no Chesterfield. But I may be mixing this up with early D-40s.

I know this is an old thread but my D-35 is an early 80's Westerly and it has an inlaid Guild on the headstock. It's actually the only one I've ever seen with the inlay and classic large headstock. All the other ones I've seen are the inlaid/smaller headstock or silkscreen/large headstock. Odd.

Are the necks that were used on D25s the same shape as those used on other models? Perhaps a neck with inlaid headstock that had been intended for another model just happened to be used on a D25.

Not for this example but perhaps others. My F30 is short-scale with the chesterfield at the top, while the D25 only has the inlaid Guild logo. My guess is that the same neck may have been used on other models.

My mid 90's D25NT(1994-95?) appears to have the Guild logo inlaid; it looks pretty much like Ridgemont's pic.

The inlays ARE "pearloid" and not true MOP as is found in fret position inlays for example. The neck "blanks" consist of several elements many of which ARE common to several models. In general the 25-5/8 scale with 1-11/16 nut seems to be the most common for steel flat-tops and in those cases the variations could be neck wood and fretboard material, then position markers, then headstock overlay. In short it would probably be very easy to put a finished neck intended for another guitar onto a body which needed a neck. It appears to have happened at least occasionally in the D25 family. (D4, D6, & D25) from late Westerly. A big "but" however is that if it's a 12 by definition it has a wider nut which probably means a wider neck, NOT the same as dread 6'ers. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's actually an F212 neck, I think all the specs would be right for woods, width, scale, and position markers, and it came with a chesterfield.

Yeah, never saw a 6 STRING '25 with a chesterfield, but what is "MOTS"? Mother of Tortoise Shell?
It would be new one on me, or if you're just funnin' me, it would be a new one on me!

"MOTS" = "Mother of toilet seat"... (truthfully...) a term often used to describe pearloid.
