Got some Guilds on CL. They don't move, but just lately some interesting trade offers.

A commercial Panini press. Probably no interest in this trade, but a fella who's interested in both the S-50 and the F-30 has these guitars up for trade.

"I’ve got a Martin D-41-15 (special edition with an MSRP of $8,995), a Lowden F-22, a Taylor 555 12-string, and a Lowden GL-10."

I've looked at his ad for the Martin, and really not my cup of tea at all, prefer to keep my Guilds, and I got all the 12 strings I need, but does anyone have any input on these Lowdens?

While I don't play the F-30 at all, I've really warmed up to the S-50 in the last month. I keep it by the computer and use it to learn from Youtube videos. Great neck, great fingerboard, easy chording, and light.

Whoa, looks like an expensive guitar, at a glance.

The F-22 is a local trade offer from a fella across the stateline, not idea what price he has on it.

Back later, heading to the hills for firewood.

I've traded once.

Had a '62 Ampeg amp up for sale and couldn't get what it was worth. Great amp. Then a harp player offered to trade me a Guild that he couldn't sell for what it was worth.

So I made the trade, and the Guild's been my Number One for fifteen years. Even sold my D-28 because I just wasn't playing it anymore.

Sure would like that panini grill, though!

I had some knucklehead offer me fresh crab for a surfboard I was selling on CL once.

Probably would've degenerated into a squabble over what constitutes, "fresh", which is, of course, rather critical when it comes to crab.

"Nah, nah, nah: that's just the bilge yer smellin', not my crabs!"

I rebuilt a Torqueflite for a buddy - back in the 90's - that had a Barracuda convertible, license plate "Ragsfish", who spent his winters on a fishing boat in Alaska. He'd come back for the rest of the season, and his unemployment checks - $500 a week - were higher than most folks were making working.

As a part trade on the tranny rebuild, he gave me a refrigerator/freezer full of Bairdi crab, he claimed was too good for the US market, destined for Japan. It was amazing, and after a few crab feasts, I still had half a freezer full and was begging people to come over and eat crab.

Undoubtedly the best crab I've ever eaten.

I never did follow up on the Lowden, but we did pretty good on the firewood, all split and put away now, and it's raining, 100% today.

Cut and split in one day. Felled that tree sideways between two trees to keep it from hanging up on other trees had it fallen straight downhill. You can see the stump between the two trees.

I looked up his Lowden on CL, strangely posted it with no pics, but this is his ad copy.

Lowden F22 - $3,700

condition: like new
make / manufacturer: Lowden
model name / number: F22

This is a virtually new Lowden F22 played only a handful of times. I love the guitar, but I've kind of over-extended myself. I paid $3,800 plus $400 in import duties from TFOA in the Netherlands. Asking $3,700 firm— these retail for $4,200.

Like every Lowden, this F22 is beautifully made, very detailed with beautiful wood details and perfection to that last detail. The dark Cedar top is beautiful and evenly grained and the Mahogany back and sides have a striking grain pattern.

The F-model offers the most balanced sound of all Lowden body shapes, a perfect match for the signature Lowden complex, rich and piano-like character. The tonewoods used in this F22 model add warmth over the entire tonal range. Included is an Ameritage hardshell case.

Specifications:
Body Shape: F
Finish: Natural
Dimensions: Width: 403 mm - 15.87"
Depth: 121 mm - 4.76"
Back and Sides Material: Solid Mahogany
Top Material: Solid Red Cedar
Bracing: Dolphin Bracing
Body Details:

Maple Binding, Rocklite/Mahogany/Maple Purfling, Mahogany/Maple/Walnut Rosette
Neck Material: 5-Piece Mahogany/ Rosewood
Neck Profile: GL-standard
Fingerboard Material: Ebony
Fingerboard Radius: 16”
Neck Details: Rosewood Headstock Overlay
Nutwidth: 45 mm - 1.77"
Scale Length: 650 mm - 25.6"
String Spacing: 57 mm - 2.24"
Bridge: Bocote
Tuners: Gotoh 381 Gold with Ebony Buttons
Pickup: N/A
Condition: New
Travels in: Hardshell Case
Accessories: Lowden Documentation, TFOA Passport

Thanks. That's probably a bit more than I want to pay, but I did get very lucky with my O22.

I haven't tried selling a guitar on CL but last year I tried to sell a D-240e on Facebook Marketplace. I got one guy who wanted to trade a dirt bike that didn't run for it and another who wanted to trade me a gun for it. When I told them both I wasn't interested, the gun guy actually messaged me back to ask me why. It got to the point I quit even responding to trade offers and low ballers. My wife eventually traded it on a D-20 for my birthday.

I like this cryptic response;

"I couldn't help but notice you take trades."

Without any mention of what those trades would be.

I always specify 'no trades cash or venmo only' on Marketplace - and get very few trade offers

Yes, the next time I will be sure to add that as well, but I didn't that time. Actually, when it all shook out, I think that what my wife got for trade in was about what I would have let it go for if I had sold it, so it all worked out and I didn't have to deal with anyone stopping by just to see how it played.
