Introduction and my first Guild (F20)

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I sought out an acoustic guitar for nearly 2 years. I had been playing a Baby Taylor because it's size didn't agitate to my shoulder issues.

When I tried a Guild for the first time in November '09, I couldn't put it back on the rack. I know there has been some debate about the older make of the F20 versus the current GAD F20. But I must say--for the price--I couldn't find a better guitar.

Now my biggest concern is do I buy the M20, or tempt my shoulder issues with a 30R? Not a bad problem to have.

Hmm.... where did I hear that before?....
Looks like it took you to the right place for advice on which Guild to buy next anyway!!!

Welcome to LTG and let us try to ease whatever pain you may encounter as a result of your new "condition", be it physical or mental through our little group therapy.....

Welcome, GF! Which shoulder, the one the strap goes on or your picking/strumming arm?

I think you should look at a vintage Starfire II next! :D

Thanks everyone.

It's my right picking/strumming shoulder. Dreadnoughts are out of the question for me. But concert sized, small bodies work well.

Welcome GF20, kick your shoes off, relax your mind. I can tell you that most of the time when you ask a "this Guild or that Guild" question you'll get "both" as a response.

If this helps in any way, here's a picture of my GAD30R next to my M20. Besides the body size difference, compare the difference in neck width if that is an issue for you. There is a great difference between these guitars (1 5/8 vs 1 3/4, doesn't seem like much but it is). I don't know about the two you are comparing. Joan

Welcome GF.
As Joan so eloquently predicted, I'll say get 'em both! It's the only way to find out which one works for you. On the off chance you keep both, that's not so bad, now is it?

I had a GAD30 and liked it well enough but it lost out in a head-to-head with the Epiphone in my signature. Blasphemous, perhaps, but check out an EF500 M or R. I have rotator cuff problems (both shoulders, so my pitching career is over) and the smaller size is a good-to-go-to guitar when the pain is severe. 8)

Yours to ponder,
Joe

I played a GAD30 for a while, and I thought it was a fine guitar.

The little body of the F and M20 makes them very comfortable, although the neck can be too narrow for some. You might find also that the "mini-jumbo" GF-series guitars fit you as well.

From your handle, it sounds anyway as if your next guitar should be a GF series (although there was never a GF20).

well.

Hey GF, & welcome.

I'm probably the most rabid F20 fan on the site. I prefer the spruced topped models to the all mahogany. My wife gave me a "57 for Christmas about 6 years ago. It's made of maple laminate with a spruce top. Just a lucky break, my favorite guitar, I play it most every day.

Mine needed serious repairs, turned out to be not much of a price bargain, new frets, fresh neck set, pretty major ovehaul, 650 + for the repairs alone, I'd do it again in a heartbeat, scored a new GAD case from another member a while back, perfect fit.

I had a soundhole Pickup wired into mine mine , pretty much guaranteed no one listening would suspect it's coming from such a tiny giuitar. If you ever get the chance it might be fun to try a good quality pickup in yours.

The GAD-F20 has a 1 11/16th" nut width. And welcome to the forum. I've only been playing Guild for a little over a year, and I love it.
