Hey, all. Long time lurker here, first time poster. I figured without anything worthwhile to contribute I would just quietly lurk, listen and learn, which I have. Still so much to learn, though. There’s obviously a wealth of knowledge here and at this point I’d like to tap into the collective wisdom this forum offers.

Just to give some background, I’ve been playing guitar on and off for about 40 years, first being inspired by the Beatles. Throughout most of that time my enthusiasm has waxed and waned along with my skills. Over the past couple of years I’ve had a renewed enthusiasm. I’ve been able to learn new techniques and skills via the internet that were otherwise unavailable to me in the “olden days“. In fact, the very reason I’ve developed an affinity for Guilds is this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ1Ldj254hM and this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JgkFA6WFnY After listening to the phenomenal tone of those 12 strings, I was hooked. That’s when I started lurking here, after which I ended up finding a bargain on a F-512 through eBay. I was so impressed with the tone and playability it wasn't long before I jumped on another eBay bargain on a D-55. Okay…I know many of you are wary at the idea of not trying before you buy. But during my search, these models were simply nowhere to be found in any of the local music stores. Plenty of GAD models, but no high-ends except for the usual Taylor, Martin, Gibson, etc. My decision to bid on these was a leap of faith and to a large extent, based on information from this forum. I’ve had no regrets, so far. Which brings me to my point. I’m looking at maybe (emphasis on maybe) adding a jumbo 6-string and found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-Guild-F-50-Jumb ... 7C294%3A50 It’s a Corona Guild, but I get the impression the Coronas seem to carry somewhat of a stigma. My understanding is the resale on these is not as high as a Westerly or Tacoma. The seller is asking what I would expect for a used Westerly or Tacoma. So, I’m trying to get a feel of whether that represents a fair price, given it’s condition and where it was made. It looks purty in those pictures. But, there’s that little voice in my head that says “buyer beware”. That same voice is also asking “How would I explain this to my wife?“ :?

Input please.

Thanks in advance.

Hasn't stopped me from posting.

Welcome Tark and a very nice way to start the Guild collection, F-512, D-55 and now looking a a gorgeous F-50.

Most of the slag against Corona Guilds are the finish blems that seemed to pour out of there. The particular one you are looking at looks very, very nice. Lovely flame on the back for sure.

The seller has many sales and a 100% feedback rating. Great pics in the ad too. Original serial number on the headstock and label and he'll most likely answer any questions you have of him.

Looks good to me and while there's a buy it now, it is an auction.

As for the wife thing, we do have a helpful thread somewhere around here to help deal with that.

Welcome to LTG Tarkus, kick your shoes off, relax your mind. Well you've certainly started your Guild family in a fine way, of course we always like to see some family pictures...

As for the F-50, I have no idea but I agree, she sure is purdy... happy hunting Joan

In 2006 it sold new for about $1750 in these parts, and you had a warranty. I think it’s a bit high albeit a very nice looking guitar. If you really want it, place a bid for the max you’re willing to go; if you get it great…if not, it just wasn’t meant to be…IMHO. And if the deal don't feel right...don't do it. :)

If it was me, I would keep looking.

Why so FN?

Price?

Personally I would prefer a nice flamy maple neck on something like that, but...

I know some folks have Corona models, and love them. But without being able to play one, I would probably avoid buying a Corona model. I didn't like the ones I've layed hands on. Plus priced too high, and not a fan of that dark neck contrast.

Tark,

Welcome to the wonderful world of LTG.
As to that beauty of a guitar you're contemplating, I say listen to your heart and respond to the GAS (we're all afflicted). I have zero experience with Coronas so nothing to offer there, but I could enjoy seeing it hanging in my office with the Westerly Bunch.
Did the posting say if there was a return option?

Good luck, regardless of the direction you follow. It's all good, and then some!
