It’s 2022 which flatwound strings are you using on your Starfire Bass?

And please tell what you like about them and which scale length of it you are using.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I have tried many over the years but I have two more I’d like to try. The Thomastik Jazz and the Dogal braided cores.
So far I like Ernie Ball Group IV and also their Cobalt flats best. Bright like rounds but can use the tone knob when I wanna get excellent round and warm sound. They only come in long scale.

T-I. I like tone and the feel. Short scale, Jazz series.

Thanks, glad to hear the short scale version fits.
Which vendor do you buy them from?

I see they are 56$ on amazon but looks dubious and seller got mixed reviews.
Jazz Flats are easier to find than the Jazz Rounds, which I recall Mgod prefers. But both can be located..I'm away so I cannot find the bookmarked vendors. I think that Just Strings stocks the flats but not the rounds.

Yes, I would want the flats.
Do their rounds chew up frets? Or are they easy on the frets?

Dan wd know better, but I have them on my Guilembric. They do not feel like like fret files as do some Rotos. I just don't like the green wrappings. (Important to me as all I care about is how I look on stage.)

I would like the green as it would match my green Starfire!

My solution is to find the shadows and hide in them.

But since some of my appearances already have a uniform dress code there's only so much I can control.

I use Labella low tension flats on my Starfires. Very smooth feel, lower tension but not floppy, and the sound is what I like (clear but not bright, thump but not dead sounding). Medium scale.

The short scales with the .106 E string or the long scales with the .100?
I ordered the short scales. Hoping it works out good.

Ah, new packaging. TI also does (or did) offer 324 sets with a slightly thinner E strings. Offered as being for Hofner basses where the nut does not welcome the fatter E string.

Interesting that the packaging says these will sound like a double bass and were made for fretless bass.

TI's sounded great at home but with their softer attack could not penetrate enough onstage for me to be able to hear what I was playing (lotsa competition with drum subs and low keys and 5 vocalists, 2 guitars) so back to Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats 2815 40-95 set. These seem to be the best for my ears regarding flats on all my basses (Ric, Gibson, Guild). Feel great, too. Almost as bright and punchy as rounds.
