After choosing to go with 80-20 strings I was a bit skeptical. So I've been torturing my wife for the last 24 hours and absolutely love this guitar. I asked my cousin what strings he would use. My cousin knows a lot about guitars. He said that you could string one of these maple Guild guitars with pig wire and it would sound awesome. Just wanted to let everyone know how it was going and thank everyone for the insights on my PB v 80-20 post. I said this before and will say it again...if I had to pick one acoustic guitar to be trapped on a desert island with, it would be my G37. I always have, do, and always will love the G37 beyond words. Something about them just tickles my fancy. Thank you, Greg. Happy happy happy!!!

sjs, that's wonderful! So glad to hear it.

There is a great world of wonderful Guild acoustics out there. My prediction is that you'll come under the spell of more of them as time goes on.

Best wishes.

Thank you and when you speak of Guild guitars you are preaching to the choir. Back in the 60s Tommy Smothers turned me on to Guild. Figured they had to be great because he could afford anything he wanted and always had that Guild. The opportunity to buy an acoustic has been wasted on one of those questionable early 70s Martins and a Taylor that is an okay guitar but absolutely nothing special. Guild has been high on my respect list for many years. I've been truly blessed because of all those Guilds I have always loved the G37.

I'm glad you found something you like, and glad I'm not the only person here playing 80/20s!

They're great. There is so much tone in this guitar. I actually got to hear someone else play it and I could actually hear it. Magnificent. There were a few folks that like the 80-20s. Sure not having any problem at this point. Thank you.

It probably goes without saying, but as time progresses, sjs, be sure to try out different string sets. Check out some silk and steel (Thomastik comes to mind), and try out some phosphor bronze (John Pearse are my fav.). There's also many other kinds out there.

Glad you're enjoying your G-37 so much.

I’ve recently been trying 80/20s on a couple rosewood guitars I tune down. Very nice. I also have them on the normally dark A50 flat top. The extra high end boost keeps them lively.
