What would cause that if the neck angle and everything else is stable?
Boneman, I went back and looked and there was a very slight depression, but it is not as bad as i thought. The neck angle is spot on, and the string height by the bridge is only off 1/8, but with plenty of saddle to lower if neded. I guess i was being overly cautious before buying...Dave

The JF 30 is a 1995 from Westerly, and has the tiger stripe maple neck. The JF 20-12 I am looking at is the one i=n the photos...Sorry for the confusion. Either way, I think I may have a problem...or a very cool hobby hunting Guilds...Dave
Good problem to have, Dave. Thanks for clarifying the situation. :)

Hope so...Made an offer...The shop owner is supposed to get back with me...I think they took it in on a trade, so I suspect they are figuring out how much they have into it...Was going to call back, but did not want to seem too anxious...Offer made Monday. Will keep all apprised...

That's usually the deal. If they're a good shop, they'll work out a good deal for you that they're happy with as well. Trades are tough to quantify and it's not just about the value of the instruments. I just went through a deal with my local shop and he's usually pretty up front about all that stuff. Unless your offer is a lowball and someone swoops in at asking price, I would hope they'd give you right of first refusal if someone comes in before they get back to you!

Update...Picked up the JF-30 12 today!...I think it was a fair price for both seller and buyer, but suspect the owner thinks I got the better deal...Will not post pictures now, as i already did so while hunting. Will post new pictures after it gets back from my luthier for set up, polish and new strings...Done with acquiring Guilds for the time being...Although, there is a DV52 I have had my eye on....

Excellent! Congratulations!🎉 can’t wait for your impressions once you’ve had it a bit. I think I’ll get mine out now and give it a whirl. The Corona JF30-12 owners club is growing. Welcome 😁

It's always a mistake to think like that!
Yes, but you left out the s=rest of sentence..."..Although, there is a DV52 I have had my eye on...."...and I see you have one...

All, going to take to my luthier for an assessment, set up, new strings and perhaps a pickup.

I do not "gig" or plug in much, but think it would be nice for one of my 12's to have a pick up. There is a LR Baggs Anthem in my Godin Metropolis that is nice, but I don't have anything to com[are it with. Looking for suggestions.

Also, it has a new set of D'Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ38 on it. My ear is not as good as everyone else's on this forum, so looking for suggestions for different strings once these need replacing.

So far, I really like it...

There are so many choices, and most of the pickups available can sound really good. The topic of pickups is so subjective.

I find the Anthem hard to beat as a recommendation for a 12 string pickup. I have performed with all the Baggs pickups (save the most recent HiFi Duet) in my 12 strings over the years (LB6, Element, Dual Source, iMix, iBeam, Anthem, Lyric and even the M80), along with a Fishman Matrix, K&K Pure 12, Sunrise, and several others I’m surely forgetting.

I currently have a 12 string with a JME Ultra Tonic installed (think: K&K plus onboard feedback suppression, balanced output, and volume wheel), and another 12 string with a Trance Amulet M-VT Phantom. The Amulet (phantom powered) and Ultra Tonic (passive) are neck and neck for the cleanest sound ever, as in super-clean, with the edge going to the Amulet as both my favorite and for being the most finicky to install. Either of those pickups are stellar choices! However...

By contrast, the Anthem deliberately adds some “color” to the sound. It’s warmer, and has more bottom end, straight out of the jack without extra processing. That can be nice for someone who wants to plug into an acoustic amp, for example, and get a really full, rich sound without adding anything. Is the Metropolis Mahogany and Cedar? If you like the sound of the Anthem in that guitar, I would guess you would like it in the Maple Guild.

With my foot poised to go directly in my mouth, I might suggest that a super clean, pure sound in that Maple may sound a bit brittle to you. Just a guess.

Chris, Thanks for input. Yes, the Metropolis is mahogany with cedar top...I will mention these to my luthier and come up with a plan...Again, I do not plug in much so do not need what someone who plays professionslally might need...I do like the Anthem, so probably leaningin that direction...
