Here is my comparison video of these two guitars. Enjoying the contrast between the rosewood and maple. Just a part time couch noodler and a full time health care provider greatly enjoying the Guild 12 strings.

Great playing, Rich! I'm so glad my JF55-12 found the right home. If I could play like that, I'd probably have kept it. :ROFLMAO: I like the warmth of the rosewood to accompany singing, but those articulate bass notes on the maple are so sweet as a solo instrument.

My sentiments exactly!

Very nice demonstration of the difference Rich. Thanks for sharing.

wow, they sound so like each other, and very deep and resonant. Love the double PG on the JF55-12.

Nice. You can hear the more plain sound of the maple. I essentially own both, and really like both. But if I could only keep one, I would be inclined to keep the rosewood, since, at least to my ears, it seems to have a more balanced jangle.

Very, very nice playing, so clean for fingerpicking a 12 string!

I can see the thumbpick, and I assume you are using fingernails as well?

Tough to choose between those 2 guitars. Guess that's why you have to have both of them!

Nothing like a Guild Jumbo 12 string. Yours was set up beautifully. It’s perfect for me with just bare fingers and no thumb pick. I used the thumb pick for the volume. But I can feel your style of play by the way this was set up. It’s delicate and meant to be amplified.

Thank you. I use my bare fingers. I have never used finger picks but I should to get an even balance. Yes, that’s why I have both.

What do you have for 12 strings?

Nice playing! They both sound great and I couldn't really choose one over the other (which is probably why I have one of each).
Which 12 strings do you have?

Rich,

No, you really don't need fingerpicks. There is more balance than you seem to believe (or hear), just the way you play now.

This is an inspiration to me, because I play my 12 strings with bare fingers and bare thumb. I always thought that the addition of a thumbpick would destroy the balance, but your playing shows me that it need not be so. The bass on a 12 string sounds so much better with the thumbpick, especially with our big Guilds (I have the JF55-12 as well as a D212).

Westerly JF65-12 and Oxnard F512.
If that Oxnard F512 is anything like my recently acquired Oxnard F40, I would bet it’s built lighter and very loud. The weight difference especially is probably very noticeable between it and your JF65-12.

The difference between my 2003 F-412 and 2019 F-412 is 1.1 lb. The Oxnard is much lighter and resonant.

Yep. I replaced the JF55-12 I sold to Rich with an Oxnard F-512 rosewood. I prefer the slimmer neck of the Oxnard (single truss rod) and the greater resonance is a better fit for my soft thumb strumming style.

Between Rich's playing and your pic of the F412, I'm once again lusting after a Guild F-412.

Is is definitely lighter and sportier due to its flat back and shallower profile. The neck is more shallow as well. The high jangle notes are meatier on the F512, but the deep well of power and high-end sparkle on the JF65-12 is something to behold. Room for both in my musical world.
