I watched this segment on History Detectives when it aired years ago, and it is currently still available on PBS Passport. If you have Passport, just search “Josh White” and it’ll come up. An extended clip of Josh White Jr being interviewed is also available. Very interesting historically, and a gorgeous Guild!

The article was written in 2009. It was much discussed circa 2010 including Hans commenting on the conclusions from the television presentation.

One link is https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index...ctives-josh-white-guitar.163565/#post-1436409 but if you try and follow the links in that thread you run into the problem that a long ago change in the board software broke links to older material. Perhaps @GAD has nothing better to do than tweak some more links :)

Now THAT is a guitar that I would love to see Guild reissue in GSR form.
That would be cool, but I doubt there would be many takers. Slotheads only appeal to a few of us, and the Josh White guitar was never a production model, just the one prototype (IIRC).

Here is Hans original full article:

But Hans ends that with: "But that's not where the story ends! To be continued!" And I guess that is the one below:

Not really!

Re. With the help of Stan Werbin at Elderly Guitars, we were able to get good explanations for the discrepancies between the photos I got from the actual guitar and the guitar in the old Josh White footage.

I never updated my story on the website, because after further investigation I now believe that the guitar in the 'History Detectives' episode was not the guitar that was once owned by Josh White.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

That is tantalizing, Hans.

Is there more that you're willing to tell me/us or link us to? Is there a "real" Josh White guitar?

Perhaps Guild made two guitars for Josh White? Or maybe it was just one guitar, and the smaller pickguard was at some point replaced by a slightly larger one? Inquiring minds would love to know!

I think the folks in Oxnard could make a GSR version. But they won't.
