Ok, so I know there is controversy both on the "refurbished" models from Guild and the GAD models coming out of China. I double dipped and got a "refurbished" GAD-40 off of EBAY sight unseen. I just got the guitar a few days again, and I'm completely blown away by the guitar especially for the price (about $300 including shipping). The quality and finish looks very good to me. And the guitar is a cannon already. I can't imagine what it is going to sound like in 5 to 10 years after a lot of playing.
So for anyone looking for a sub-$500 guitar, I'd definitely recommend looking for one of these. I'm sure their are some lemons out there, but I sure didn't get one. I took it too my local independent shop that does the best luthier work around Atlanta (big plug for Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta--the guys are the best), and he didn't even recommend a set-up.
Loving having a Guild, even if it isn't made in the U.S.A. Ok, I'm ducking now...
