Hello all,

I am very happy to report that today I received my first Guild guitar, a '73(according to the serial number) D-25. It's a beaut, looks great and sounds sweet, though it seems to need new strings.

I found it online at Guitar Center, a store located in Phoenix. It was on sale, and I was very happy with the price I paid. I got in for much lower than I've been seeing on ebay and craigslist.

I do have one concern, however... On the sticker where the serial number is, it says nothing about being made in Westerly RI--just that it was made in the USA. I was really hoping it would, but I'm not sure if they simply did not post Westerly back in the early 70s or if it was made someplace else.

Anyways, I'm real happy with my buy. The tone is sweet and it plays much louder and than any of my previous acoustics. Like I heard while researching the D-25, the thing booms!

Thanks all,
-Travis

Welcome to LTG! A D-25 is a great place to start!

Your D-25 hails from Westerly. Westerly didn't make it onto the labels until ~'75, according to Hans Moust's book.

Added in edit: Is yours an all-mahogany flat back (braced), a mahogany-topped arched back, or a spruce-topped arched mahogany back version (I'd guess 1 or 2, but might be 3). Let's see some pics!

@ Dave, honestly I am completely unsure as to what types of wood make up my D25. I'm rather new to the world of acoustic guitars and haven't yet learned to spot the different woods. I apologize for being such a novice :p

As for the pictures, here you guys go:

Welcome and congrats in one fell swoop!
But I don't see the pics. Anyone else see them? :?

I can't see 'em either. Maybe they're on one of theose sites where you gotta have an account.
If he's got a flat back (braces on the back on the inside), then it's gotta be a hog top, right?
If it's an arched back with a very light colored top then we're 99% sure it's a spruce top right?
If it's an arched back with a dark or colored top then he's gotta try to look at the top wood from inside the guitar to see if it's kinda beige-ish/pink-ish, and matches the color of the sides, which would be a pretty sure indicator of the rare arched back/mahogany top, right?
Or finally if the top wood as seen from the inside is WAY lighter than the back/sides, then it's a spruce top, even if stained "mahogany" color, ("D25M"), right? :D
Welcome aboard TMA! What does the label say in the model number slot?
Is the top really light colored compared to the sides? Then it's probably a spruce top.

Edit: @ adorshki, all it says is D25. I can post a picture of the inside later if that helps.

That's an all-mahogany flat back, from what I can see.

Awesome guitar!
I have her sister from 72 (or one of them :) ) and love it dearly.
She was my first Guild guitar, and if you look at my sig, you'll see what effect she had on me.....

That's a sweet one! Looks to be in really good shape, especially considering the age.

Play it and prize it. They are great guitars.

Nice . . . is there a brace on the inside of the guitar's back, visible through the soundhole? That'll confirm whether or not it is an archback.

Oh, & wash your dishes after you put your guitar away in its case . . .

Thanks for the input guys, im glad to know what type of d25 i have.

As for the bracing on the inside... There is indeed a bracing, so that makes it a flat back, right?

And hahaha, i was going to do my dishes but i was too excited after getting my first guild. They still aren't done, ive been too busy playing it! :D

Yep, that'd be right.

At least you got your priorities straight. Hang on tight. The ride gets pretty wild after you hang around here for a while. It's called "Guild Acquisition Syndrome" or "GAS" for short.
It's kind like becoming a vampire. You just can't go back.
