Baggs M1 passive is the only pickup that sounds as big as my Guild does.

Nice sound hole options also from Seymour Duncan. Check out the Mag Mic.

I love the M1 Active. I find the sound to be very natural. You can see one in my D55 profile picture. I also have one in my other performance guitars, my Martin 00-16DBR and my Martin 00-18. I had them all installed professionally because I am not willing to take a drill to the end pin hole! There may be and probably are other pickups I’d like but once I had my first M1 active installed I saw no reason to look elsewhere.

Out of curiosity I emailed Guild and asked if installing a pickup would void the warranty. FYI I will post the reply below. If I do get one I guess I will have it installed by the Guild dealer where I bought my guitar.

"Typically, we no longer honor our Warranty when a guitar is modified with aftermarket Components or Materials.

That said, assuming this installation is performed at an Authorized Service Center, we would be willing to maintain your Warranty, with special considerations:

Any Potential Warranty Claims would be subject to Special Scrutiny in regard to this Pickup Install.

Any Issues determined to be a result of this pickup install would not be covered under Warranty.

Any Issues covered would need to be determined NOT to be the result of the pickup installation.

This Exception would only stand if this pickup installation is performed by a tech/luthier at an Authorized Service Center."

Interesting. That, or something similar, has always been true - (warranties are for manufacturing or materials defects so the cause needs to be investigated and not attributed to aftermarket work) - but it is good to see it so explicitly spelled out. One more reason to consider factory electronics.

That's a pretty good answer, Roland. And clearly not a form letter.

I think this is one of the reasons why the bigger guitar companies even have "authorized" repair places. They (Guild, in this case) rely on the service center to help decide what to do.

I went to the big city doing something for my wife, who is in NYC this week. I stopped by the Guild dealer where I bought my guitar. The sales guy did a good job of talking me out of the M1 and into the L.R. Baggs Anthem. He says that because I bought my D-20 there and if I buy the Anthem from them, they will install it for free. I didn't have the guitar with me but I'll probably be back down there Monday unless I talk myself out of it.

If I buy an M1 from them they will install it for free too, either one.

Back at you! I’ve been busy fighting cancer (squamous cell in my tongue and neck, NonHodgekinLymphoma ) and a broken humerus but am winning so I’ll try to get back more often!
Good to hear that you're on the improve, and I'll send some Corgi healing vibes your way!
