I read a thread here about locking tuners that agued the case for them on tuning stability. Thats not why I want locking tuners on the
starfire. I want ‘em because it’s a lot to hold down when replacing the string. It would be so much easier to hook the string ring on the trem pin, then run the string path to the tuner and just lock it all down. Am I wrong? Anyways, I haven’t seen a replacement locking tuner that uses all the same holes. I am hoping not to get my luthier involved. So, any ideas?

I assume you're talking about the difficulty of changing strings on a guitar with a Bigsby?
I suggest you use a capo--hook the string around the pin on the Bigsby, pull it tight to keep the tension on it, capo it at the 12th fret,
then do the necessary at the tuning peg.

You can just hold them taught with the flat of your forearm. It's an acquired skill.

To the OP's original question, I don't know what's on your guitar, but the Planet Waves cutting/locking tuners are a drop-in for modern Grovers. They just feel kind of cheesy. But that's true of any locking tuner I've used, other than the Schaller/Fender, which are just heavy and ugly,

Exactly the challenge. Thanks for the capo idea, that’ll work. I’d still like a locking tuner though..

The tuners on my G&L Tribute Will Ray are pretty good, but they are unmarked. Not sure who made the American version's tuners.

I have the Grover open gear tuners. I like the spare look and the lighter weight of them. It’s just keeping them engaged on the Bigsby while getting enough slack to wind them up on the tuner that I’m not enjoying.

Not a drop in for those. They'll drop in for the import sealed Grovers.
