As long as you have a legal bill of sale to justify ownership in the event where (who knows?) you decide to sell it one day to another person willing to overlook the serial number / used stamp thingie.
Also a good point. You may want to be able to prove YOU didn't obliterate the serial number, and/or that you've owned it for x number of years, so that the staute of limitations on theft is already expired even if had possibly been a "hot" guitar at some point.

If nothing else, this post is informative as all get out. I've learned a great deal in a short time. Too bad you had to go through it, GAD, but we're benefitting somewhat from your unfortunate experiences. And I'm in agreement with BP that you should get whatever partial refund you can from the seller and enjoy the guitar.

I'd return it. You can always find another Bluesbird. If you ever want to sell it, then you're going to have to explain alot about the serial number.

still planning to equip it with some HB-1 goodness? If not, I know someone who will take them off your hands immediately!

No doubt, which is why we're all here right! Though it sucks to have to go through it all, I'm glad to make it easier for others to navigate these issues should they ever encounter them.

New rule for me - always get a pic of the serial number! Teach me not to ask for it. See what a sexy body does to a guy? Makes us all sorts of stupid. :)

So I've decided to keep it.

All the whining and hand-wringing about the s/n aside, it's a great guitar. My conversations with MIRC have settled my mind that it's likely not a stolen guitar. I've told the seller that I'll take his partial refund offer. Doesn't hurt to have some spending money in the ol' paypal account. :)

I'm a bit dissapointed in the color because it's not what I thought it would be. Here's the seller's pic next to mine:

The Bluesbird is the guitar on the left. As you can see, it's very brown. Not at all the color it appeared in the original photo. As you can see from my Les Paul, I love that Brockburst kind of color, and was really hoping that it would look like the first photo. Ah well. That sort of disappointment is forgotten when you find ruined serial numbers.

I'll be writing a comparison to my R9 soon, and then I'll be dropping my HB1s into it and reporting on them. I'll then probably go nuts hunting for prettier HB1s since mine have the chrome worn off of all the screws. :)
