For the past few days, I have been watching a particular Mandolin, on Ebay. I really don't know much about it, even though it looks a lot older than the owner claims. In fact it's quite unique and seems to be one of a kind. Bidding started at, incredibly enough at $39.00. My final bid was $82.00 but I WON with $76.00. Strangely enough, a few parts are on order from Stew-mac, to set it up right. My new musical toy should arrive within the week. Birthday Money Well Spent !

(Can someone tell me what wood species make up the back?)

UPS Tracking says that 'MANDY' was last seen in San Marcos, CA, United States, at around 3:50pm. Hope to see her in Michigan in a few days.....

I have an old bowl back that is a little like yours. The neck on mine is bad though.
It isn't very playable but sure is a nice piece of art work.
I understand that mine was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's.

I hope that yours will be a nice one.

Taylor Martin Guild,

The Ebay Seller, posted that this particular Mando was 'Pre 1960's' ... I really think that it is a lot older than that, even though I have not been able to find another like it. I would like to see pictures of the Mandolin that you speak of, that you say was built in the late 1800's to early 1900's. I recently bought an 1890's Gut String Parlor Banjo....
