That is quite impressive. Not my cup of tea on a guitar but it is pretty darn good work. I wonder who did it?

Yeah, a lot of hours spent on that headstock. It kind of makes an Artist Award headstock look plain. Big, but plain.

Yuck, give me this any day.
Dittio dat. And you can give me an old Guild twice a day!
I know a lot of craftsmanship goes into that, but something about it just leaves the whole guitar world.
I like looking at bling guitars inlays, but I can't stand playing them.

I did buy an old dobro with some swirlly abalone nonsense on the headstock, but the guitar was cheap and met my needs, so I closed my eyes and fired. I just try not to look at that end when I'm playing. And I figure, it's a lap guitar anyhow, so the audience will never see it.

Now, if a sixties Martin D-45 showed up in my Christmas stocking, It wouldn't take me long to learn to love it.

Check out the inlay work of Larry Robinson, too.
There are many talented inlay artists these days. And, with print technology being what it is, there are also many decals available. I happen to prefer inlays over decals, but I do understand the appeal (contrast the older Guild logo(s) with the Martin logo). I also prefer shell over plastic, but that is another rabbit hole for another hunt.
On a recent guitar build, a customer actually needed reassurance that I was inlaying real shell, not applying stickers. I would have never thought to glue on decals, but then I crawled out from under my rock and realized how prevalent decals are. (I am safely back under my rock, in case anyone was concerned)

I love it, but I wouldn't want it. That is some piece of art. Of course, if you're buying guitars for collection or art value, that's a different set of criteria than I use.

Martin has done a bunch of these specials and they're all gorgeous in their own way.

But, re: bling.... I'd rather have Guild 60th anniv. F-30 because it's got a diamond dotting the "i." :D :D

Ooh, decals.... Not cool. :) Reminds me of people wrapping their cars. Pinstriping used to be an art. :)

Oh man, I hate Grit Larskin! Old issues of *Guitarmaker* and *Guild of American Lutherie* have run features on him, but I find his work really unappealing.

It is exquisite work, if you like that sort of thing.
Or perhaps are the guitar player in a New Orleans brothel.
I however don't, and aren't, so just prefer the quite unassuming good taste of my garden variety 1974 Martin D-28 headstock.
