Hey guys, I'm new here but not new to Guild guitars. My dad owns a few and has given me two of the best of them.
First is the '76 Guild F-50 which my dad bought used in the early 1980s. He never liked the neck shape and had issues fretting the high E, so it largely sat in his closet. However, I find it to be the most comfortable neck shape out there, nearly identical neck, woods, shape and frets as my '81 Les Paul Custom actually. And I've said for years this is probably the best sounding acoustic guitar I've ever played and believe me I've played a lot - I've played maybe three guitars that might give it a run for its money but I'd need to play them side by side to be sure. So back in 2018, my dad took it to the local luthier, got it setup and gave it to me.
The second is a '75 G-37. I mentioned I was thinking of buying an Epiphone Frontier as a beater - sounded really nice down the neck but the higher notes thinned out a bit in typical Gibson style. So my dad offered me his G-37 as a "beater". This guitar is way to nice to use as a beater though. He had some thick coated dead sounding DR dragonskin strings on it, my initial thoughts was that it will do as a "beater". I got it home and put a set of Martin Phosphor Bronze 12s on it (later I found DR Veritas work even better, what I use on the F-50 only 12s instead of 13s) and turns out I really love the sound of this guitar too, not as much as the F-50 but close.
And yes, I am partial to maple acoustics. These Guilds are some of the very best examples.
