It is being much discussed elsewhere including individual items in Online Offerings, here https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/couple-nice-guilds-in-this-list.222471/ where there is a catalog and here https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/the-estate-of-daniel-schwartz.222463/

There are some origin stories and reports of what Dan said about some instruments.

There are instruments that belonged to Dan that we have not seen for sale yet. He had more Starfire basses than have been listed and he had some six strings and more amps. We don't know whether the items will be appearing later or whether close friends of Dan's were given the opportunity to cherry pick the collection.

Hi, Edwin.

We've been discussing Dan's guitars in several threads on the board the last couple of days.

I believe Dan's family is responsible for the Reverb listing(s), so it's good to see that it's going to his family.

Thanks!

That is indeed a good thing. Whoever gets these will be playing some storied instruments!

I wish that there were an archive of The Dude Pit. While the Dude could be a little off, Dan posted a lot and dropped a lot of knowledge there.

yes remember the dudepit. I bought a set of darkstar pickups from Fred Hammon for my starfire bass after regular reading there. Also mourn the plexi palace forum for departed amp-related knowledge there

RIP mgod. I remember this old photo with some his basses and Fred Hammon's

You know, I haven't looked at this image in years... But looking at it now, that black, dual-bisonic M85... Is that my 1970 M85-II? It looks to have the same, super rare 4 knob control layout with the 3-way switch on the bass side of the neck joint, the headstock is clearly the larger 1970-introduced headstock, 2 bisonics... @Happy Face do you happen to know or have any thoughts on this?

I hosted images for Dan because it was a PITA for him to host. I have several outtakes from the Fred and Dan meetup. Here is one that shows the M-85-II well.

I don't remember the specifics of @mellowgerman 's instrument but I'm not sure what control layout is rare. I see bass bout PU toggle and four control pots. I don't think there is a suck switch or Deep-Hard or a master volume so maybe that's it.

Also recall the origin story of that photo which includes both Fred's and Dan's basses.

The Dude Pit migrated through several platforms. The last one I know of was at https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/thedudepit/index.php

Several years ago I think I guessed my login credentials and was able to see old content.

He dropped a lot of knowledge here, too. I never got to meet Dan personally, but I'm grateful for all our many exchanges. I totally missed the Dude Pit, but maybe need to try @fronobulax's link.

EDIT: It seems to work!

Thanks for that additional image, @fronobulax. That one actually seems to show a replacement bridge (maybe a Schaller 3D on a riser?) so it's safe to say that's not my bass. That said, it is the only other dual-bisonic semihollow M85 I've seen with that control layout. Seems like most have the addition of a master volume and/or a tone-suck switch. Cool to know that my M85 has at least one twin-sister our there! Though I guess it's possible that started out as a different variation, maybe with a Bisonic in the neck position and Hagstrom chrome humbucker in the bridge position -- that variation I have seen a couple of times with the absence of both master volume and tone-suck switch.

I just looked at the Tapatalk Dudepit and that appears to be something that was set up after the demise of the original Dudepit. There are much fewer posts. I guess the old one wasn't migrated over.

I remember browsing posts on the dudepit, though I don't think I ever had an account. My discovery of all things Guild and Bisonic related started probably during the final year of the dudepit era. Ultimately led to me buying my first Dark Star for an Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow. Just thinking about it though comes with a pleasant nostalgic sense of excitement.

My recollection is that Steve Barr migrated The Dude Pit to several different platforms and each time there was material that did not migrate. A few years ago, when I checked the link I posted I found some posts I remembered making but my focus was a pleasant surprise at what was still there and not disappointment over what was missing.

I may eventually see what, if anything, is at archive.org but I'm not expecting a lot.

I was confused by the Mellow One calling it a M-85-11. I bought the black one of which you speak from a gent up in Oregon or Washington. I even think he was a member here later.

I told Mgod that I had bought it. Now & then we'd sorta talked about me buying the bass in the photo. But he was not motivated seller nor was I desperate buyer. That model bass was just on my mental watch list. Anyway, he just said "I think you'll be real happy with it."

But, was it here or on an email where he once said his favorite M-85 was the second version with the thin solidbody. Rigged with Darkstars or Bisonics? Because of the profile?
