Has anybody ever tried modding the pickguard on an older Starfire so that it sits closer to the body? On all the Starfire's I have owned I have ended up removing the pickguard completely; due to the really shallow neck angle on Guilds I find the pickguard far too close to the strings when I am picking on the higher strings. I prefer however to have the pickguard on as it helps with my technique.

It seems like you could simply enlarge the cutout areas where it rests on the pickup rings, and adjust the L hinge accordingly.

I would buy a repro and mod that. Throw the old one in the case for when you sell it.

That is what I intend to do. Just hoping to benefit from an forum member's experience at having done this.

Add a +1 to the group of guys who've considered the mod. I'm pretty confident that routing the guard to sit around the pickup rings, instead of atop them would be enough of a difference, just never had the nerve to cut into the original one, nor interest level and/or dollars to buy another one to mess with.
