The gold tone rings line up with a standard humbucker ring. As for Dynasonics, I kind of doubt it. Aren't they like the 2k in size? I think fender would have Dynasonic rings for the Tele-Sonic if they still make that one.

Yes, the Gold Tone rings probably are too big.

I think fender would have Dynasonic rings
Good idea. I'm going to check into this. but I think fender jut screwed the metal surrounds to the guitar with no mounting, the way Guild did.

Bong-O and Daryl,

It doesn't matter if you can get the "DeArmond" Gold Tone rings as they are too small on the inside to hold the pickup, the screws on the bass side for mounting the pickups are too close together, and their screw holes don't line up for the 70s Hb-1 rings. As I said earlier, Dreamlander has a pair of these and they are useless for said application.

Don't think they sell p/u rings at this establishment, but you may like to pay them a visit anyway..................

But no pain, no gain.

Are you getting rain in Orange County? We've been getting a fair amount here in Sand City. I love the rain here because it's a rare treat.

Sorry for the delay.

Most of what the OC got was while I was out of town. Had a little this week, though. It's all been an easy drizzle - so no mudslides yet.

I'm guessing even a little rain in the AZ could make the whole desert bloom!

Okay danerectal,

I finally got to take a trip to the plastics store, and here is what I found out.
It's damn difficult finding a plastic suitable to make rings! The Dearmond rings I have are made of vinyl--PVC. According to "the plastics people," PVC is easy to rout and drill. Contouring, sanding, and deburring it is not! Therefore, they'll fit but look like crap. Polyethylene might work, but probably will have the same issues. It's also difficult to find sheet scrap. ABS won't polish well either. According to the, plastics people this leaves us with acrylic, available all colors. It can be bought in appropriate thicknesses, routed, drilled, sanded, contoured, and polished. It can also be gently thermoformed if one wants to, for example, slowly wilt it to conform to the radius of a guitar top.

I also thought about the regular old "hack up a chunk a pickguard," but since it's also vinyl, I don't know how it will sand, finish, or polish. I may try this first, just to be sure. My '68 CE-100 came with a superthin aftermarket Guild stairstep mockup--my first victim. I'll let you know the results, when I finally am able to get to it. If it does clean up well, I'll buy a blank from Stew Mac which is the best deal I've found.

If it doesn't work out . . . :| There is always wood!

Jp,

I got a promo issue of Premier Guitar a while back, ironically right after I bought my first Guild. On the cover they feature Abyss guitars which use what looks like rosewood to surround the pickups. I think they look pretty choice and wood will definitely be the easiest to work with from what you've said. Of course since it's close to Christmas, maybe someone will feel the spirit and come up with a couple to sell. A Christmas miracle???

Sorry to threadjack but theres a ton of info here. I'm looking for an outer hb1 size but a standard inner. Has anyone seen any around? Mine has replacement rings that are too obvious for me. Plus I picked up a set of SD vintage '59s for the S 300 I'd like to do every thing at once.

Hello Jodiemeglio,

You can use the original Guild HB-1 mounting rings and mount the S.D. pickups in the same way as Guild has been doing with 'after market' pickups since the late '70s. That way you will keep the 1 & 2 height screw adjustment feature, which is superior to the 2-screw 'Gibson style ' arrangement anyway.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

You can make the 2 adjustment screw adapter from an extra heavy nylon pick. Just cut a strip off and drill holes in the paper
