Don.

I like the color better that the original red, seems much warmer to me. The color variation on the back is nice. Maybe it's just the light but it looks like a nicely centered & symetrical light to dark . ?

Jeez, black stain, you're not messing around.

Must be the light. It's pretty uniform all the way 'round. Can't wait to be polishing this out & seeing that dark grain begin to pop!

Sitting here breathing those oh-so-familiar fumes after the final lacquer coat has set up enough to handle & bring indoors for the night. Been in the low 30's all day & my heater has been working extra hard out in the garage shop.

Not happy with the binding, but I'll live with it for now. Perhaps once I've moved & have been able to build my new shop with extra space & functionality in mind, I'll tackle this thing again & just replace it all. I bet tortoise shell would look cool.

Anyway, I'll let it hang for several days before buffing out the finish. In the meantime, I'll be putting together the wiring harness so everything will be ready to install.

Sure looks sweet!!!

It's together & playable now. Still experimenting with pot & cap values & have decided I don't care for the 250K tone pots. Had a mishap with one of the locking tuners which ended up snapping the head off the reverse threaded lock screw. Of course this was on the very last string to be installed, so I had to put a Sta-tite in it's place until I can get the right part. :?

At this point, I've only worked the finish as far as the first round of hand buffing. Have a few touch up spots to deal with, but for now I'm not going to go any further until spring when the weather warms up.

Not much to say about the GFS pickups until I have the pots switched & more time to play around. First impressions are a thumbs up!

Very nice! I know how good it feels to play something you've worked on so hard.

dklsplace, thanks for sharing the wonder job you did on your guitar, it must sound awesome with those DeArmonds on it. At least that is what they looked like. Do you know any sites that explain how to do binding work? It probably costs like the dickens to have it done professionally. Great job! Have you got the binding done yet?

No, I'm leaving it as is until we get some warmer weather around here. That, & my project list isn't quite so long.

I'm sure there are a few sites with info & basic instructions on fixing binding, but I don't know any off the top of my head. Also tons of books on the market for every aspect of guitar repair.
