mine is a Starfire IV NB, the NB means Natural Body and it is Mahogany. A bit heavier but oh so sweet!

The Carr Rambler is easily the best amp I have ever played through. It can go from super clean and creamy to distorted and crunchy. This combo of the Starfire and Carr Rambler is what I would define as TONE!

I too have never tried a Carr Rambler, I’ve always had lust for one. If the sound samples at their website are any indication of how these really sound...Wow! Samples on most amp manufacturer's website leave a lot to be desired. I just wonder how much of this is really the amp and how much is recording studio magic.

I lack the knowledge or wording to describe it properly but it is a drastic difference from any other amp I have heard aside from those made by Swart. The reverb is spooky and cathedral style. The tremolo is very good. I changed out the tubes to all Tung Sols (2 6L6GC and 3 12AT7)and one Phillips for the 12AX7. Made a huge difference in the tone.

This amp just sounds like it was made on another planet. It goes from clean and friendly to mean and growling with a few little adjustments. 28 to 14 watts. The only other really great amp I can compare it to that i have played through is a Swart Super Space Tone 30 and a Fender 66 Blackface Reverb. It dogs both of those amps with the wart maybe having a little bit better reverb, but I think the Atomic Space Tone reverb may be the best on the market IMO.

If you get a chance to play one I say check it out. Sure it is expensive but I am saving up to get one for myself ASAP as this one is on "loan" to me for a little while. I can't imagine going back to my old amp after playing through this thing.

Dang, Mojo, that Starfire is hot! Magicpauley was right about the lovely stripe to it as well. Somewhere out west, Treem is smiling. :D

I'm really loving my super reverb more these days , since the vibrolux has gone in for repairs( needs a new reverb tray) .
the combination of the starfire and what i use for the band at the moment , i can get the right sound , i want for either chunky chuck Berry like rhythm sounds , or rockabilly stuff ( you don't need a 6120 all the time ) even the 50's horror based twanged up reverb drenched madness that i seem to be playing a lot of at the Mo ! woohahah!!
here's another pic of my cherry red beast before i put the guild bigsby on.
also noted that it ( mahogany) feels lighter in comparison to a friends gibson 355 lucille 8)
iT's the same one leaning against the old selmer zodiac ( classic underrated 60's british amp)

Great photo of Ric, Mojo.

We shop locally at the same health food grocer. Cool guy (in the flesh), very conversational.

I met him once at a gym in Raleigh, he really did come across as a nice guy. Very personable and talkative like you said.

Hi MJ and congratulations on the SF NB ... very 8) 8) 8) Our Mod Krysh has a Carr Vincent which, according to Carr's website, is no longer in production but I think the Viceroy is the made-over version. Those Carrs are not inexpensive

definitely not inexpensive, but well worth every penny. Luckily i managed to get a great deal on a lightly used one, thanks to our buddy Treem the Enabler!

Just gorgeous! and I bet it sounds great! I've heard very good reviews of all Carr amps.
