My first acoustic guitars were both Madeiras - the 6-string in my avatar and a matching 12-string. I have no photos of the 12er, but I did find the catalog from when I bought them. The 6-string is model A-18 and the 12-string is model A-12A. It's interesting that the catalog shows them as having black headstocks, but mine had a wood veneer (presumably rosewood).

I just added to my collection.

I picked up a P500. 3 piece maple back....pretty flamey....ebony fretboard and bridge. Tortise shell binding, abalone rosette. Rounded headstock but MIJ, not Korea. Really a fine sounding guitar and plays like an electric.

Funny, my A30 has kept me on the sidelines from buying a Guild maple dread, darned thing is a cannon.

I also have the A-12, same recipe as the D 212, but the Guild DNA didn't really make the trip overseas. I had an A30R which was a dog rocket to my ears but the new owner loves it. Rosewood....meh!

When I brought the P500 home I took out my A-2, which is patterned after the F30.

I know there is a lot of disdain for these guitars but that A-2 beat out a lot of more expensive guitars the day I bought it new.....and it still makes me smile 45 years later.

I gotta do an A/B against my F30 some day!!!!!

I did not know there was disdain on the LTG re Madeira. I always saw this brand as one of the best "off-brand" brands associated with a major guitar mfg in history.

Congratulations! Here's the 1977 (I believe) catalog:

Interesting you say that. Maybe I just picked up on the negative comments due to my long history with one.

Btw...just played the A2, A20 and A30....stellar!

Then I played the JF30...uber stellar

I know you all have heard me say this before, but I wish that Guild's Asian rim guitars were still called "Madeira". Much like Martin did with Sigma.
