Is it a sin to play such an iconic Jimi Hendrix song using nothing but a Strat?
I hope not, because my 2014 Guild Starfire V suits me just fine.

Nothing against Strats, I own several and they're great guitars, but my Guild is my go-to guitar, and has been since 1966.

No sin at all. Why not get a slightly different sound? Given all the previous discussion of Starfire pickups on this forum, I'd be interested to know if you have modified yours at all, and how you had them set for this peformance.

My pickups on my 2014 Guild Starfire V are just the stock pickups that came with the guitar.
No adjustments whatsoever.
The only modification I did was to install a "Vibramate String Spoiler" for fast and easy string-changing.
My amp is just a stock 2014 "Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb" using the Vintage channel and I use an "Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini" for my solo overdrive stuff.
Then I end the chain with a "TC Electronic Flashback Delay" using the "Tape Delay TonePrint by Dan Huff" with the level at 10 o'clock and the Delay & Feedback both at 12 o'clock.
Oh yeah... and a "TC Electronic PolyTune" tuner.

Sounds good. I gigged my new Starfire IV for the second time last night and was very pleased. I like the way it hovers just on the verge of feedback when pushed hard with overdrive. And it will feed back with little coaxing, which I also like.

Yeah, I love that "verge of feedback" feel, but at the same time it's very controllable. I love it.
My old 1966 Starfire III wasn't as forgiving as me new 2014 Starfire V.

Honestly, I can't find one thing wrong with this guitar. The workmanship is amazing. Hats off to the Koreans on this one. You've got me wanting to add "Watchtower" to the band's setlists. Thanks.
