Have been looking for one at a good price or over 1 year. Finally scored. This one went for a price of a GAD. Don't know the year, but it is a Tacoma built guitar. Now I have to wait until I get it home!!!!!

Congratulations! There's nothing like getting a nice guitar at a great price. I picked up a
'89 D50 SB a few months back that is about as close to any D28 I've played over the years.

Best of luck with it. Nice burst, too. I've been with my D50 a lot longer than I've been with my wife!

beautiful guitar!! looks like a keeper to me regardless of where it is built. the Tacomas I have played were super instruments.

Anyone know what the BG means?

bluegrass. [edit: actually I'm not sure about that; I thought bluegrass was on the D-40 models... Maybe the OP meant something different representing the burst??]

Oh, a Tacoma-built D-50 for the price of a GAD... WHat a steal.

The Tacoma versions of the D-50 were simply marvelous. Enjoy!

Here's a video of Willy Porter playing a New Hartford D-50BG. That string 6 is tuned WAY down!

Anyway, I guess it's "bluegrass" just like the D-40. I wonder when they started using that as a designation for the D-50 though.

I think there was a Bluegrass Special D-50 introduced in 1965. So they've been around for a while.

I'm looking at a local D-50 from 1981. Guy wants to trade for my Gibson. Tempted...

The BG is the Bluegrass Special. They started the current D40 and D50 BG Specials when the production was first moved to the Tacoma plant. It has the adirondack top/bracing. I was originally looking for the D40, but I'll take the rosewood version. The sunburst finished Guilds have the classiest colors IMO.

P.S. I think the tuning is DADGAD/

Got it today. This one is a goodie (of course they all are, right??). Nice deep sunburst and perfectly bookmatched woods. The EIR is nice straight close grain and bookmatched perfectly. One thing I didn't know is that the D50 version came with Tortoise binding. Really adds a classy look with all the dark wood and the sunburst.
It sounds great with nice clarity and balance but still has strong bass. Looks like I'll be keeping this one.

Mario, it doesn't matter which order you get them in.
Guys! Let's find a D40 for Mario now!!!
Great burst BTW. I was hoping you wouldn't like it, no luck I reckon?

Nope.

In fact, I got new strings, did some tinkering with the truss rod, nut, saddle and polished the frets. Plays right. I did a favorite song of mine in drop D and there was that clear clean piano sound I was expecting from the adi top. Oh boy this one me likey very much. I hope to post pictures in a few days when I can wrench the camera away from my daughter.
BTW Thanks for all the concern but I don't think I can get a D40 BG too.

Re: My new D50 BG !!!! now with pics.....

Sorry it took a little while to post pics. Been playing too much lately to put it down long enough to take them!! I especially like the close, straight grain on the back. The sides have more figure and some cool patterns. And the Guild sunburst is the best in the business IMO. The only finish damage is on bottom of the curve on the headstock where it looks like a wall hanger ruined it. Otherwise it's pretty much like new. The person selling it made it sound like the finish damage was significant. I think that it can be touched up to a point but if not it's really no biggie.
