Hi Guy's,

Well here it is. After much anticipation I finally present for inspection my Hoboken/ Westerly F30 SB, serial number A1 2771.

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody involved in this transaction. Thanks to Neil from the UK in advising me on customs and freight issues and sending me on this Guild path in the first place. Cheers to Coastie for letting me play his lovely little Hoboken F20 and Westerly A25, also to advice on shipping and customs. Thanks to Capnjuan for pointing me in West's direction, and to West for his offer to send the Guitar to me if all else failed.

Most of all I would like to thank my dear old "Aunty Joan" (jgmaute), for firstly finding the Guitar for me, putting up with all my endless emails, and all the help, advice and support along the way. Not to mention stepping into the breach at the last hurdle and packaging and sending the Guitar to me. Honestly, I cant thank you enough for this.

And so here's the story. This is the Hoboken F30 that joan found for me in Bloomingdale. As you can see, it's a little worse for wear.... The great thing about this F30 is that Joan had played it and reported it to be a good one. This was really the deciding factor on this one for me, especially after Frosty had raised some concerns about the variability of the Hoboken models. Unfortunately the dealer it was from wasn't especially helpful, (maybe a factor of not being particularly email savvy, and everything happening on "southern time"...), suffice to say it was a very protracted process to get the sale sorted out. That done, we then struck troubles with the postage as the dealer wanted $600 USD to post it to me. Luckily Joan stepped in that stage, picked up the Guitar, packaged it superbly and sent it to me for a third of that cost.

And here it is. It's an absolute beauty, play's and sounds like a dream. I've cleaned it up a bit over the weekend (it was filthy), put new strings on, fwoaaaah !!!

Good for you G'dude.
The story of the acquisition is always going to be a big part of this guitar and you can take away a good feeling about the entire process. Looks good out on that sun-drenched (probably warm, too) lawn with its new sibling.

Thanks for sharing the story with us!

Enjoy , enjoy,
Joe

Great stuff Guitardude!!!! she's a winner....ready to be played and enjoyed. Man, folks pay ALOT extra for that kind of 'relicing' look on their guitars these days. She has been well loved, AND she has alot more love to give! Glad it all went well and she arrived safely. Great story, and hats of to all involved in making it happen. ENJOY!!! Southern :D

Thanks mate, I put the 0016 next to the F30 to show the difference in size. 0016 is more of an OM in size whereas the F30 seems to be more 000 sized in Martin parlance.

The Michell I bought brand new in 1981 for my 21st birthday. Kept up with the updates and bought a new (second hand) arm two years ago. Bearing and oil changed every year, runs like a dream. Funnily enough Coastie has the original version...

Thanks for your comments guys !!

Cheers, Ian

Congratulations, good show by you and Joan. I've always said the next best thing to getting a guitar yourself is to help someone else get one that they love. I hope she brings many years of happiness to you Dude.
