My recently purchased X-500 has finally arrived all the way from San Antonio...was kind of expecting 18" or 19" being from Texas, but it is in fact 17". Upon opening the case for the first time she was better looking than I had expected, but then upon closer inspection there appear to be at least a few issues that I was not previously made aware of (most not a big deal, but full disclosure is nice).
1. The binding along the treble side by the headstock is quite loose and in need of repair (see picture). I specifically asked about all of the binding and was told there were no issues. Easy to fix.
2. From what I can tell the finish around 5/6 of the tuning pegs is bubbling and peeling (see picture). Again, when asked if there were any issues with the finish the seller (consignment sale) said there were absolutely none, and that aside from a few small nicks in the top it is pristine.
3. The tone knob for the bridge pickup does not work. "Are all the electronics working normally?" To that I was told "yes!". Should be easy to fix, depending on why it isn't working.
4. The pickup ring for the bridge pickup is cracked all the way through. Any ideas where I can get a replacement ring to match for a 1984 X-500?
As for the action, it does appear to play reasonably well, but I have questions about the neck angle and I am not qualified to assess that.
These are the items I was able, with my relatively untrained eye, to come up with right off the bat. I will be having it fully inspected this coming weekend to make sure there are no other issues that I am unable to see. Meanwhile, here are some pictures...
