number of acceptable units produced per unit time

I once heard a guitar factory manager say that their personal efficiency goal was one guitar per employee per day. Interesting alternative to just maximizing output.

It is interesting to watch FMIC play a shell game with the Guild brand.

What shell game? I'm not sure I see your point. It's still a Honda automobile whether it was assembled in Japan or Ohio or Canada and from parts sourced worldwide. It's still a small craft brew even though the machinery used to brew it belongs to a large multi-national beverage conglomerate. Perhaps you are just reviving the "What makes a guitar a Guild?" discussion?

Madrose, Ralf,

I think you guys are right on. Arcos as in "arched" back.. Clever.

I was thinking it had something to do with arco as a marking in classical string music (i.e., use the bow rather than your fingers), but that made no sense. No, I think you 've got it!

I agree with Frono's comments. This "not made in America?!?!" is a tiring one that only seems to go on with Guilds so I will not add to it. But, as a point of interesting information, the Ensenada Guild plant in only 1.5 hours from the Taylor plant in Tecate, Mexico. Both are relatively close to the border crossing near San Diego. Martin chose their plant a little further south in Navojoa, Mexico. Still on the west coast though. There have always been rumors that Asian made guitars of American brands have shared factories. For example, it is rumored that Asian Guilds were made with Recording King and Blueridge, and ..... I don't know if this is factual since there is a lot of garbage on the internet. I wonder if the same rumors hold for these Mexican made guitars?

Anymore, I'm willing to pay more for American-made products.
