Hi all,

I've been lurking around for too long without posting and not much reading I'm afraid, I guess my non Guild guitars have kept me busy. This may be about to change because something strange has happened, in fact I consider it a miracle and I still can't believe it: Another GSR T-500 has popped up at Thomann. I had happily but only en passant followed the development at Guild with the new electrics, especially the new Custom Shop is a glorious thing and the American Patriarch series is something to really drool about. Not that I needed another archtop or whatever guitar, but that X-500 had piqued my interest because I was always lusting for a blonde archtop with P90s. However, although reasonably priced in comparison to Gibson (ghee they are nuts!), it was just too expensive to really consider buying it. I tried to keep GAS as low as possible by telling myself that I would prefer an ebony fretboard anyway, and maybe even a thinline. For some stupid reason I never clicked the Electrics/Archive link on the Guild website so I didn't know about the GSR series. I had seen the X-180 at Thomann and wondered if it was some kind of prototype (stupid me) but I wasn't interested because it is too similar to my X-170.

So a few days ago I was browsing the Thomann site for news as it hit me like a hammer. What on earth was that? A blonde full hollow thinline archtop with P90s, spruce top and ebony board? The Guildsby is a bonus, I like Bigsbys. And so breathtakingly beautiful because the blonde color is not pale but slighly ambered, just as I have always envisioned it. GSR T-500, obviously from the New Hartford Custom Shop but still very reasonably priced. I thought I was dreaming. A limited edition, only 20 to be made and 10 for Europe. Some quick googling elightened me and I knew it was now or never so I hit the button. Meanwhile I have paid the guitar and am waiting for delivery but I guess it won't arrive before wednesday. If at all, if it all isn't one big misunderstanding and mistake at Thomann.

Especially after reading this thread, how is it possible for another T-500 to pop up in early may 2013? And how is that price possible? 2,5k € while in the US it costs 4k $? That surely must be some kind of mistake? As I said before, I still can't believe it. I'll keep you posted.

Markus, that's wonderful. Have you actually bought it yet? Good luck!!

Looks like our new friend Markus is awaiting delivery, Chaz. Welcome here and good luck with the new baby. There's a lot of love, and a few of them in the midst here.

Hi

I also am new here and am the proud owner of GSR T-500 number 8. it's my first Guild.Great guitar and congratulations to you on getting one Marcus. You are even luckier than you know because I spent a loooooong time chasing mine down. I had various European dealers in the Netherlands, U.K and Germany bombarding Fender Europe with requests for it back in January, and they all came back empty-handed having being told that it was completely sold out. One dealer told me that Fender said that in the end only three came to Europe. I eventually got mine from a shop in Granada, Spain. Obviously there must have been another one in a back room somewhere!

Many thanks to all on this thread for the useful information and discussion about this model. Guild are lucky to have such a friendly and well-informed community form around their instruments. You guys are an asset to the company.

Unfortunately there is now an Aristocrat-shaped worm gnawing at my brain....

Best,

David

Markus,

That price of 2.5k euros you paid is a very good price, but don't let the 4k USD asking price fool you. I got 2/25 for the GSR T-500, and 2/18 for the GSR Starfire VI, and I didn't pay 4K for either. That is certainly everyones asking price, but I'm not sure any are truly selling for that except 1/x. However, I did pay very slightly more than you did, so congrats on the deal! Let us all know how you like it once it arrives and you have a chance to give it a workout. I won't cloud your review with my opinions, but suffice it to say that I don't plan on selling it any time soon. ;)

Thanks for all the kind words and let me join David with his thanks to all the participants of this thread, very interesting and helpful indeed. Yes I know how lucky I am, it seems that for once in my life I have been at the right place at the right time. But maybe I should wait celebrating until I actually hold it in my hands. Chazmo, like twocorgis said, I bought it and am awaiting delivery. I will keep you posted, definitely.

And of course, congrats to all the other owners of this fine guitar. David, you earn it much more than me to own it. Guildman63, in Germany it would be impossible to bargain with a dealer for a model that limited. Congrats that you were successful.

The guitar hasn't been delivered today and there has been no update on the DHL tracking information since nearly 48 hours. I don't know what to make of it myself. And tomorrow we have a holdiay here, so nothing will happen before friday. Big bummer!

Probably sniffing the case.
Hopefully they'll remember to deliver it when they're done.

Markus -- As another proud owner of a GSR T-500, I can say that I'll bet you will love the guitar. Top quality, easy playing, great tone. Like Guildman63, I paid about what you are paying (maybe just slightly more), but mine was shipped to the US from a Canadian dealer. I got it the first week of March. It was hung up in customs clearance for 10 or 11 days. I was a little worried that it would come to me in pieces after "inspection" by customs officials, but it arrived safely and intact.

The guitar has been delivered today and all is well. Unfortunately I don't have much time right now, so I'll just give you a few pics and comment later. But I'm curious about your comments regarding the serial. No x out of 25, so what is this, number 26? After all, it has been completed in december '12, which is quite a little bit later than the rest I guess. Maybe it's a straggler. Anyway, it's a very beautiful guitar, near perfect build quality (bridge base would need a bit of sanding but otherwise perfect), I've lowered the action a little and adjusted intonation, now it plays well. It is quite loud acoustically and sounds very nice. I didn't have the time to plug it in yet. Oh yeah, and it smells nice and sweet.

By the way, has anybody tried it with flatwounds? What kind of strings do you use?
