But alas not a Guild.

Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin ii Arch top in Cognac Burst. Couldn't quite stretch to a Starfire!

It's a bit of a looker, and plays well too. My first ever arch top, quite different to anything else I've ever had.

I have one of the Godin 5th Avenues and frankly a great guitar for not that much money.......between Godin and Ibanez Gibson has alot to worry about in our current down economy........jim in Maine

Congrats! We've discussed the 5th Ave here before, and I've almost bought one myself.
The cognac burst is absolutely gorgeous (even better looking in person than on your pic if I may be so bold...)
You're right, it's not a Starfire, but definitely some awesome bang but the little buck required.
Nice library too!

Hey Tom

I have a mate who lives in Henderson. I visit every couple of years or so. I was last there November last year. I visited the Guitar Centre LV while I was there. Are there any other good Guitar stores in the area?

Thanks

Mike

Wow, that's a great picture :)! I played a Godin 5th Ave. last year at GC in Louisville and loved it. Have seriously thought that if Guild doesn't step up to the plate soon with an archtop (other than the Starfires  ) I'm gonna be getting me a Godin.

That's a nice looking guitar. Never seen one before. How do those pickups sound?

This is the first arch top I have ever played, so I can't really compare it to anything other than my electrics. Bridge sound is nice and warm wit plenty of bass. Neck pick up much brighter. I like both sounds. Great for a bit of Johnny Cash impersonating!
What has surprised me though, is how good they sound though my small Blackstar HT5valve amp with a gain turned up a bit. Really nice crunchy bluesy kind of rock sound with out losing the detail.

Ah, yes... I've picked up the Kingpin II at the local guitar shop a couple
of times. Lot of value there, good sound and good looks.

Congrats!

My Godin 5th Avenue was absolutely perfect from the get-go in regards to playability and sound quality. Same with my Ibanez GB-15TR...........perfect setup. Every Gibson that I have ever owned recently has always necessitated a setup to get the darn thing to play correctly. Even the Custom Shop guitars have not been set up decently. Heck when you are buying an expensive Gibson Custom Shop guitar it is really sad that they have people working there that do not understand how to perform a decent setup from the get-go. jim in Maine

The only problem with the guitar is the pickup selector switch which rattles like mad in the middle position.
I asked Godin about it and got this reply..

"That type of 3 way switch always rattles in the middle position (even on a '59 Les Paul worth over $100 000!). You must put the switch in positions 1 or 3 when playing acoustically."

Tell me Jimmy does this happen on your model, or other arch top owners how about yours?

weebsy,

I have a Godin 5th Avenue with the non-cutaway and one pickup. SO the thing about the toggle switch is a non-issue for me. HOWEVER frankly that is a bunch of nonsense regarding that all toggle switches rattle in the middle position. I have jazz guitars (old Guilds) and none of them that have dual pickups rattle with the toggle switch in the middle position. That would drive me nuts to be honest with you. I don't care if it is a 1960 L5CES or a Godin 5th Avenue you should not have that kind of rattle. I would contact Godin personally on the telephone and be straight with them. Tell them that you would like a new instrument that does NOT rattle. Granted we are not talking about a fancy expensive archtop however that is not the issue. You want a guitar that does not rattle plain and simple IMHO. Let us know what they tell you. jim in Maine

Its actually second hand, about 18 months old, so no warranty. Just wondered if I could get the same switch from Godin, but maybe I should get a different switch. Just didn't want to bother if the replacement switch did the same.
