When one comes up, it will likely pop up on eBay, Reverb or Craigslist. You can also periodically check the websites of well-known guitar stores that sell vintage instruments, like Gruhn’s.

The best overall resource, however is this forum. Members usually post information about desirable Guilds that are listed for sale elsewhere, and give each other an opportunity to purchase guitars they intend to sell before listing them.

Be patient, but diligent, and you will eventually find one.

Refining my original post after more research,
What I am looking for is either a DV73, or possibly a DV74.
Thanks

True that! Both of my stellar Guilds were acquired after a tip by TX on the forum. And burst New Hartford F-50Rs are not easy to come by!

Welcome.

You're looking for guitars that are quite rare so you will likely need to be patient and wait for one to show up. I've waited literally years for some Guilds to pop up for sale.

Well I was notified that a DV 73 was for sale on reverb yesterday and as soon as I saw the email I went directly to it and it was already sold.☹️

Doesn’t that seem high?
With some patience shouldn’t I be able to buy one for less than that?

Guild guitars outside of the US are usually quite a bit more expensive than here...still, it's an uncommon instrument...perhaps you will find one.

Years ago a '67 Starfire I bass sold for over $4000 at a time when patient buyers could get similar condition instruments at $2000 or less. The rumor was that the buyer was a French collector. Since then I have started hoping that when my instruments hit the market, there are interested French collectors.

FRONO - you are so right - I have bought some pro-audio & studio equipment in eBay. The most ridiculous asking prices have always been in France. Perhaps they think, that if they have one of 100 000 made, they have a "National Treasure"

Over here we have saying : "The one asking is not crazy, but the one who pays"

If you get extremely lucky, maybe.

The thing is that there were very few of these made. (Someone here will know how many -- maybe they'll chime in!) And if any any of the very few people who possess one decides to sell it, and that's a big if, chances are they'll research what the last one sold for and price theirs accordingly.

One in lesser condition than the one on Reverb would probably sell for less.

Of course, there's always the chance one will turn up at a yard sale or a pawnshop, or that someone will put it up for sale who has no idea what they go for. But even then you have to be in the right place at the right time.

I don't mean to be discouraging, but you may want to temper your hope with reality. (More than a few of us on LTG have been "jonesing" for one of these for years ourselves!)

Meanwhile, I love my DV72 -- it's gorgeous and plays and sounds great! Maybe start there? There's a greater likelihood of your finding one of that model because there were more of them made.

Good luck!

That seems pretty negative.
I am not ready to settle for something that I really don’t want and will continue my search for what I really do want.

It's not negativity; it's reality. We focus on Guilds here and we're constantly notifying the group when they pop up and still I think I've only seen maybe 2-3 DV73/74s if almost ten years. DV72s pop u maybe once or twice a year I'd say.

HI GE, welcome aboard.
I get your "no compromise" attitude, I've had it myself, in fact, I found my first my first Guild while i was searching with 2 non-negotiable conditions:
It had to be new and it had to be American.
But what GAD explains is quite true.
Some members post items in the "ebay listings" sub-forum almost as a hobby if not just a public service.
Add to that that Guild's s/n charts only show something like 52 DV73's ever made, and that starts to explain why we see 'em come up for sale so infrequently.
Scan down to the '94-96 section:
http://guildguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/history_of_your_guild.pdf
While we know that the lists contain errors and omissions, I think that listing is correct in showing DV73's only made in '94 and '95, because for one thing it doesn't even appear in the '96 catalog, either, although the D100 and the DV52 do.
So consider even if every single one of those 52 is still surviving, how rare that truly is.
So I don't think anybody here's trying to rain on your parade or tell you to give up, we're just trying to demonstrate what the real odds of finding one quickly are.
I sincerely wish you good luck.
The ironic counterpoint is the occasional story of a guy waiting for a long time for a certain model, like GAD describes, and finally "settling" for a bird in the hand after passing on a couple of poor examples, only to see another one in better condition pop up the next week.

Another one I've been after is the F612 -- there are a few out there -- one even turned up in a trash can in NYC! But it's super-rare, maybe eve rarer than the DV73.

I remain hopeful, but not having one has never stopped me from enjoying the other Guild 12-strings "in my quiver," as it were!

Meanwhile, even though this isn't what you're looking for, following the pricing on related models such as the DV72, may be useful information as you search for your DV73.

Cheers!

I would rather deal with an individual that had one for sale rather than race to bid on one that you haven’t really had the time to digest before buying .
