I just bought this 1977 F112 off of Craigslist for $550. I'm surprised by its good condition, given it's age. It came with a nice, original case as well. I do not have much experience with 12 strings, and would very much appreciate feedback on improving the set-up. Net joint appears fine and untouched. The 6th string has 3mm at the 12th fret, and the 1st 2.5 mm. The fretboard could certainly be straighter; do most people adjust the truss rods pretty much until the fretboard is straight, just like an electric? There is a vertical crack in the nut, but I don't care unless I hear an issue. I assume upgrading all the bridge pins would be an improvement? It appears that there was once a pickup in the guitar, due to the replaced strap button. Does this button/jack give any hits what kind of pickup was once installed? What are the recommendations for pickups? I plan to use this guitar for recording, but would use mics for any higher end studio stuff. I don't see much of a hump behind the bridge, but note a small amount of space at the back of the bridge. Based on other posts, am I OK not to worry about this?

My favorite Guild 12 string. At that price you could do a neck reset and still come out fine. A friend has one and ditched an under saddle pickup for Dazzos, but that requires epoxy which many won't use. You might want a Baggs HiFi for easy installation. The jack is generic.

Hi wirehairs, welcome!

Nononononononoooh!!! :))) In fact the dual rods are intended to deal with the large difference in tension between the treble and bass sides of the neck. Just something to be aware of because treating 'em like a standard single truss can have bad results. Best left to somebody who knows 'em, as there's going to be a lot of tweaking since adjusting one affects the other a bit.

Yes, based on your pic that's well within "harmless" zone.

Welcome wirehairs! Dang, that is a great deal. What a beauty - very clean looking. Nothing like the sound of a good Guild 12 string. Enjoy!

Congrats, wirehairs. You could certainly try to adjust the neck for straightness, but never adjust more than 1/4 turn on either truss rod. Sometimes you can compensate for a deteriorating neck angle or even humidity effects by allowing a little neck bow, but you will be trading off with buzzing in one direction or just bad playability in the other direction...

It would be a good idea, as Al suggested, to take it to a luthier/tech for an assessment of the neck and angle to know what you're dealing with. There are a number of things a tech can do to put off a full neck reset, if that's what's needed.

Best wishes, and welcome aboard.
