Guild's teaser. Looks like 2 pickups. Wonder if it will have a vibrato tailpiece?

My guess... Two SC pickups keep the price point low and a Guildsby version.

We should offer up suggestions to see who guesses correctly.

No, will be actually a bit more expensive.

Same same but different... The new "Guild Surfliner HH" with two "HB-2":

8 different pickup settings:

Was actually already shown mid 2022 at NAMM and won the Best in Show award! But wasn't available until now.

And they are now on the Guild webpage:

And you can already buy them:

I guess that's one way to look at it, GG... But, things are already weird since Guild has competing models between StarfireI (Indonesia, I think) vs the MIK/MIC StarfireNs...

I think they have competing parts of the company designing products.

I see it as production for different price points.

Ralf
Maybe, Ralf. It seems highly disorganized though... More indicative of random people throughout the company just coming up with ideas. I have no problem with that, by the way, but even if they're looking at different price points, as you say, they are cannibalizing their own sales, I think. Don't you? We've already had people look at NS Starfire 5s and end up with SF1s... I don't know.

Yes, but I'm looking at it on a "by model" basis. The Surfliner HH is a solidbody with a full-size HB pickups. The MIK S-100 would the closest model in terms of specifications, but it's a much more expensive (and better quality) guitar. The MIC Aristocrat HH, while chambered and not fully solid, isn't terribly expensive, but it has a set-neck while the Surfliner has a bolt-on neck making the Surfliner less expensive to make.

I guess my thought is this, GG... If this plethora of models puts more people on to Guilds, one way or another, then it's great! That's essentially adding to the value equation for Guilds. Once upon a time, Guild used to be the best value for the money. That vanished in the mid-2000s and I would love to see that back.

I only worry about cannibalizing the sales within the brand, as I mentioned to Ralf. I

We at LTG have never really understood how Guild/CMG saw the market in terms of price points for new electric instruments. My thought is that the Newark Street/Korea was once the only Guild electric. As production became feasible elsewhere and at lower cost Guild essentially created the budget or introductory line of electrics. As that line grows I expect to se NS/MIK production to be reduced to models that can compete as "mid-priced" and those that cannot will be phased out. Many companies offer similar products at different price points and can usually make adjustments in specs or marketing if they fear or observe cannibalizations. I think the Starfire bass illustrates this. There is the NS Starfire II which is expensive for an introductory model. The NS Starfire I has been phased out and replaced with the Starfire I which is different and innovative and cheap enough that it does not compete with the Starfire II.

Two rocker switches and push pull pots would drive me crazy but then chasing tone dynamically is not my thing.

But I still like the Surfliner.
