Hi everyone,

I've posted like once here before, but I've been lurking and reading all sorts. I've been searching for either an F-50R or a JF-55, and I just won one on Ebay yesterday. It seems to be a great guitar, and I certainly got it for a great price. It is a Corona model, and I was just curious what other problems I can expect than the finish? He said the finish was fine, so maybe I got lucky there. What are your thoughts on the Corona F-50Rs?

I have a white D25 from Corona, and based on that I'd buy another Corona in a heartbeat...they are the unsung hero of the Guild line...I'm sure there are a few 'misfits' from any of the locations...but mine is every bit a Guild...regards, Steffan

Hi Nate; welcome and congratulations on your new guitar! Never had a Corona but all the people who have good ones are crazy about them. CJ

Welcome to the gang. My Guilds are not from Corona so can't comment. Love to see some pics when the new toy arrives.

HI welcome aboard! I certainly have no problems with my D40. If anything its finish is thicker than the 2 Westerlys' and I'm pretty sure it's nitrocellulose. I remember seeing those finish issues being discussed around here but I seem to have a vague memory that something else was going on besides just the manufacturing location, was it that late Coronas were showing the problems because Fender was starting to experiment with other finishes? Well if you haven't already, do some searches you'll find quite a bit of discussion!

FRom those pictures it looks like it's got every bit of the build quality of Taabru's and mine. I think you're gona be REEEEEL HAPPY.
Interesting note is the dual pickguards.. I didn't think they came out of the factory that way, and on my D40 it was actually delivered with the top guard inside the case to be installed at the buyer's discretion. They're normally optional or special order only as far as I know. Can you find out if it was "built" that way or delivered with the extra guard uninstalled? Or the original owner might have even simply ordered it as a spare part and put it on himself seeing as how there's a K & K on there I don't think Fender installed either. I love seeing production variants!

He added it and gave lots of information about it. Apparently the material was selected by Hans Moust, so it seems like the seller knew what he was doing and took pains to do it well. I think it adds a touch of distinction to it, it's not every day you see a guitar with double pickguards, especially a guild.

That Double pick guard reminds me of John Denver's old Guild. Congrats on the new guitar!

I'm using my time wisely and picking an inaugural tune.
I usually like to warm up with some scales. On a brand new (to you) guitar it'll also get you acquainted with the whole neck right way (if you do scales like I do.)
Happy for you bro!

The guitar's out, arrived in great condition, and I've been playing it nonstop since. It sounds great, and I'm getting accustomed to it pretty quickly. The first tune was, after much deliberation, Cocaine by Dave Van Ronk, followed by lots of other Van Ronk and then on to other stuff. I couldn't be happier with this guitar.
