Let me just clarify that the switch tip is a non-issue to me, as is the headstock shape.

I love what they came up with for the headstock shape, most elegant headstock since the 50's ones I think, without Gibson having to take them to court!

What is the serial number code for these again?
That's a good question and there is no final answer yet.
SPG used "KS" (Korea, SPG) as starting letters and the headstock shows "KSG" where G stands for Guild.
Now I thought the next two numbers "12" would be for the year of manufacture 2012. The problem however is that I have not seen a KSG13xxxxx yet! All so far shipped Newark St. models start with KSG12 and run in the fivehundred numbers so far. Does that mean all started production in 2012 already? Or is the 12 just for "2012" models, means 2012 designed models? That is something I was not able to find out yet.

The other 5 numbers behind are a sequential serial number independent of model number, so there is only one number 7 for the entire Newark St. collection as example.
So the serial number has no code for the model number in it.

Do you mean a dovetail joint and not a bolt-on? Yes, it's a set neck instrument, if that's what you mean. Incidently, was jamming last night and it gained the fabled "Just_Guild Jazz Guitar Stamp Of Approval".

It is a very nice instrument. :-D

I have no idea what all y'all are talking about (Team Acoustic here).....but, I sure love the enthusiasm about all the details you are sharing. The overall take-away that I'm reading here is that Guild has made a great re-entry into the world of electric guitars with the Starfire IV (Newark Street).

Congrats, Steve, on getting one! Glad it's a keeper!

It was the only one Eighth Street had in stock. I really went over there to play the Franz models, but this was the only one they had. They have a T-400 on the way, but I would have been able to resist that, due to the price tag.

Makes perfect sense. If they had a III you probably would have chosen that one. :applouse:

I certainly would have played it, at the very least. Then I would have a direct apples-to-apples comparison.

I've got about half the cash stashed away for a III first of next year. If you can wait that long I'll let you play mine. AAHHRRR:pirate:

Has anyone done a comparison of the original mini-humbuckers to these new ones?

Sonically, they are very close. I don't have an original IV to compare it with, but I do have a III.

Just stumbled upon this thread and was pleased to hear that the Newark St. models are delivering the famous Guild tone! I've been lusting after a SFIV for a while now and even though I momentarily ended my semi search with a Tokai ES110 I'm already thinking about selling it to get the new MIK SFIV. My Tokai has a set of Gibson Burstbuckers on it and I really like the sound of them but I could swap the originals back on and save the BB's for some future project. I could maybe get 800e for it so I'd already be well on my way to pay for the SFIV. Also, I already have two guitars with HB1's on 'em so I don't know how much I would benefit soundwise if I owned a vintage SFIV (there are vintage Starfires with other pups too, yes). That's why this new model with minihums seems all the more inviting to me. So, I sell the Tokai with original pups and order myself the Newark St. SFIV - anyone against that? ;)
