I've been researching here on LTG for a month or so after a friend of mine who has two guilds recommended the brand.

After deciding that a vintage guild was what i was after, a 1975 D40 was found in the states, and delivered to australia a couple of days ago. You don't see many guilds for sale in this country although a few stores do sell new ones, mostly D40 and D55 from what i can tell

very impressed with the build quality and condition of this particular example, and look forward to spending quality time with it and this board

Cheers

Yeah, Welcome Aboard, I lurked around myself for a while before joining. A great sense of community here. And yeah that guitar DOES look amazingly well preserved from here! A tip if you didn't know it: it needs to be PLAYED to really develop its tone. Has it been or do you have your work cut out for you?

 the youtube vid brings back some top memories of my childhood

from what i have beent told its a one owner. has two very minor dings on the front with approx two mm uplift on the pickguard side of the sound hole, and two minor scratches on the back

comes with original owners manuals, guild guitar cloth which while looking like its never been washed, has at least seen some use.

from what i can see its been in the case unused for 99% of its life. looks brand new to be honest

certainly do have my work cut out for me :D

to date i've been using an old hand me down daion (cheap brand that is no longer around) that i treat fairly roughly; this one i'm handling it with kid gloves. it'd be a shame if something this old got even another scratch on it

Welcome Ozy,

You come to the right place mate !! There's some fellow countrymen of yours here already. (Not me - Canuckian).

You definitely got a good one there, the D-40 is right up there as a highly desirable Guild. If you watch Ritchie Havens hammer on his D-40, you can see you do not have to treat it with kid gloves    . Guilds are made to last and "Made to be Played".

Post well, post often, heck even post drivel - we love it.

P.S. FYI LTG, Ozymandias is a poem by Percy Bysse Shelley that's theme is the inevitable decline of all men, and of the empires they build, however mighty in their own time. Whew - heavy stuff.

glad you know of it, it is a quote in the preface of 'collapse. how societies choose to fail or succeed' by jared diamond who is one of my favourite authors.

Welcome aboard, King of Kings
 thanks for that i quite like it, however the intent was not there; myself being that sort of being. far from it

oh and by the way, i didnt realise that ozymandias would be reduced to ozy, which works quite well with me being an ozzy/aussie etc, when on a international forum such as this.

thanks to pike for starting it off, and others going with it :)

G'day mate.
Welcome to the Guilded and GASsed Group of Good Guys (mostly).
Thanks for rekindling my desire (doesn't take much) to add a D-40 to my wall. Yours looks great and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If not, just send it my way!
I'm opening a home for orphaned guitars (preferably Guilds)

Cheers,
Joe
