I am really coming around to maple acoustic guitars. While many I have played were too bright and chimey for my tastes, others like my F50 SB and F412 are clear and loud, and provide a nice contrast to the darker, warmer tones rosewood guitars provide.

Recently, I acquired an F44, and now I have its dreadnought cousin the D64. Both are fantastic guitars. The D64 is everything the F44 is, and more. An absolute cannon. I acquired this one (#19) from our own Tristan (Treem), and it was also formerly owned by Richard (Richardp69), who had Tom (Fixit) address the condition issues it had at the time.

The only issue that needed to be addressed was repairing the small cracks on the bridge, which I had repaired. See before and after pics below.

She's a beauty. The repair of pin hole cracks in the bridge is both simple and fascinating to me. Simple because I had a guy repair a D55 I used to own and he simply made fine ebony dust, mixed it with glue, filled in the cracks and sanded the bridge. Fascinating, because like yours, you'd never know there'd been a cracks there after he finished.

That picture from the back showing both the grain on the body and neck is beautiful! I love the way it has aged to an almost amber over that maple. Congrats!

Congrats awagner! What a gorgeous pair. That maple just shimmers. The F44 I believe has Carpathian spruce, which is pretty stiff with a lot of headroom. The G60 I had used it and it was also very silky and aged to a rich color like yours. I’m guessing the D64s were built with it as well?

What a specimen.... Gorgeous.. Maple scratches an itch for me and no one does it like Guild. Those arrowhead in lays are stunning against that rich ebony.. Congrats!

Absolutely gorgeous fraternal twins awagner!
I've started looking at Maple more seriously, too since I see so many of you here being convinced of the dynamics they possess.

Wow! They have really aged nicely. Beautiful guitars! I'll bet they both sound as good as they look.

Beautiful, congrats! That maple is awesome and the large split diamond inlays don't hurt either. Enjoy!

I'm such a sucker for beautiful maple. That's a real beauty. Isn't that the model that @walrus had? I'm pretty sure. Anyway, congrats on both. They're both incredible!! (y)(y)

Yes! Now owned by LTGer wileypicket! My only acoustic guitar for 30 years, loved it, but shoulder issues required a smaller body guitar.

Yours is a beauty, awagner!

Here is the '84 D64 with my '11 F-30RC:

Beautiful back on that one. My D30 really blew my preconceived notions of maple out of the water. It has a fat, deep and bassy tone while the top end is bright and defined. Just lovely. Enjoy yours!

Beautiful guitar! I haven’t played a D64 but I bet I’d like it. I’m partial to maple and Guild has made the best maple guitars.
