Saw this on Reverb and got it for a good price. As far as I’ve seen Detonator IIs are pretty uncommon and it was one of the few guitars on my “must buy” list. So I did!

The seller even drove to a Starbucks near me to deliver it which was fantastic! Super nice guy.

Guitar is in very good shape. It needs an arm and the Floyd needs some love but I can deal with that. I got it without a case because it was offered in a coffin case and I think they’re stupid so I got an even better deal.

Confirmed as a Detonator II by Hans and it’s from 1988. Now I’ve got this and a Liberator in the same awesome blue.

So what makes it a II? The Floyd Rose and EMGs from what I can see from the flyer:

Now if I could just find a Liberator II!

Congrats GAD!

I once had a advanced Detonator model. It had gold hardware, bridge and neck Humbucker and middle single coil. The pickups were EMG and it had a boost switch and a mid band filter switch. Pretty sure it had a licensed FloydRose trem and it had a gold plated locking not. Actually a really nice guitar and must have been close to top-of-line for that model.
I have to figure out how to get pictures off of an old hard drive. Lost a lot of pictures over the years!

Because there is no veer like a veer in the first few responses to a post by His GADliness, it can be pretty easy to get data off an old hard drive. If the drive worked when it was last powered up and you can get it out of the old computer. There are plenty of adaptors that you can use to read it on a working computer. Most strip mall IT shops can do it and if money is no object there are specialized recovery firms that can get data off of ancient and/or damaged drives.

To make the veer less egregious you could make the effort and then show us old pics of your guitars and amps.

Ad copy obviously written before invention of internet, silly silly Guild mistakenly thinking that highly figured maple mated to solid mahogany gives you brilliant tone and lots of sustain. How little we knew then compared to now, it's just mind boggling.

Congrats, GAD. I eyeballed that one for a few minutes and then passed. I have to get rid of another first to keep a promise to myself.

Love that color!

At least it’s a veer I know something about.

Congrats, Gary!! And you KNOW I'm gonna love the color. Quick Question: why are your initials now in lower case??? Formerly GAD now known as gad.....??
Uhh… Hmm.

When I logged in recently my password manager used “gad”. Somehow the system took that to be a name change? Now the system is telling me I can’t change it again intil April 19th.

I think the system and I need to come to an understanding of just who it thinks it’s restricting!

Congrats Gary !!! About 5 years back I bought a standard Detonator of that Electric Blue color. Great color. As you can see from the photo, they had swapped in a zebra DiMarzio Super Distortion humbucker, but still had the factory original DiMarzio PAF HB, which came with the sale. So, I put it back to stock. Keep us posted on how your thoughts on that model.

I think those were the last of the Detonator run, yes? S/N above JH000600?

The system and I had a... talk... and it has learned its lesson.

Thanks Default. I think the drive is an old EIDE type. I will pick up on of those interface units and get the pictures. I'm wondering if I posted pictures that included the Detonator I'm referring to on the "old" LTG site?
