I’ve had this guitar for a couple weeks now and am really enjoying it. It’s my first maple guitar so I didn’t really know what to expect. I like the crisp, dry brightness it bring to the table and almost has as much bass as a dread. It came equipped with a Baggs Lyric which sounds nice but I don’t really need to plug in. The only negative was that the nut wasn’t cut very well so I replaced it with new unbleached bone. All good now.
I don’t like the pickguard and am hoping to find a regular Guild guard if I can find one that fits.

The specs I found say red spruce top and nitro finish. Is that true? I thought all GADs were poly.

If anyone has a source for a pickguard that would fit, I'm all ears. I asked a while back and got crickets. I suppose I could get some material and use one of my other Guilds as a template and make my own but I'd prefer to just buy one.

It looks like you’ve got one of the first generation GADs, which in my opinion were the best, wonderful build and sound with ebony, nice inlay, great tuners, and an ugly, Taylor like pickguard. I hated that original pickguard and replaced it with a regular Guild pickguard. Unfortunately I can’t remember where I got it but will do a search to see if I can find out. Here are two pictures, one of my GAD 30R alone and one with the GAD and my D55. I originally got the 30R new for my beach guitar when I lived on Hilton Head Island. (We jammed on the beach weekly.) I live in Colorado now and it doesn’t get as much play but when it does it’s great.

I'm pretty sure this is where I got my pickguard. https://shop.guildguitars.com/product-category/parts/acousticguitars/pickguards/?v=7516fd43adaa

Congrats on the 40 Dave! I’ve said it before but one regret I have is that I didn’t buy a local GAD F30 and F30R I tried several years ago. It is a nice line of guitars.

Thanks for the link. I have been looking there but I'm not sure which one would fit based on soundhole radius. I may just have to take the plunge on one.

I removed the original guard and there's a definite tan line so I will need to get something for sure.

Love your 30R. So much better with a real
pick guard.

If it would help I could do some measurements on mine.
