Based both on my initial playing of the instrument on Sunday and the helpful comments from forum folks to my D-140 thread, I went ahead and brought home the D-140 CE. I got in a trade where GC not only matched the math that I was thinking prior to talking trade, they also gave me money back with not so much as a complaint and/or raised eyebrow. That is what they should have done . . . I'm just saying that it was nice not to have to fight/haggle for a fair trade. Not trying to say that all GC's provide a smooth and easy trade just that I have had good luck with this particular GC.

Onto the guitar. So far, it is just an impressive piece of wood that check all kinds of boxes: solid wood, bone nut/saddle, cut away, electronics, the neck that we all have come to associate with Guilds. I'm happy. Also confused as to why there were some complaints/reviews that the D-140 was too heavy (Mind you the reviews were not on LTG) . . . to me it is as light as feather (maybe a bit overstated) but compared to the Eastman dread I used in the trade, the D-140 is darn light. It comes with (as I'm sure you know) the Guild cross-over case . . . Is it a case? a bag? Both? In person, it's more impressive than seeing it online.

Anyways, thanks for the help in this decision . . . Looks like I will need to change my screen name as I have no more Eastmans!

I am pretty sure that it had 12-53 NB's in the store, so that is what I replaced them with when I got home . . . We'll see if the NB's are really the strings for this piece of wood. The serial number appears to by G3200250. I read the thread about the Westerly Collection Serial numbers - am I right think that this D-140 is from 2002? Finally, FWIW - I just changed my screen name from GuidEastmanGuy to KCGuildPicker

Very nice, congrats! The gig case that came with my D-1212 is okay, but I still prefer a hardshell. The serial number on yours indicates it was made in 2020, not 2002. Enjoy your new guitbox!

Thanks on the serial number clarification - 2020 feels right. Did the Westerly Collection exist in 2002? Agree with comment. on the hard case. The Guild gig bag is cool but i’ll probably be looking for a hard case.

Wow, that burst is beautiful!! What a great guitar!! Congrats on the guitar AND on your new name!! (y)(y)
Thanks - i totally have stumbled into some good looking guitars of late. Case in point - when i went to GC this morning, there was a pristine Yairi DY91 hanging next to the D-140 that had i not been all in on a Guild cut away, I would have a hard decision to make!

No. Back then was the GAD line, I think their first MIC effort and some of the best MIC acoustics ever built. The westerly collection is a play on the Westerly RI guild era.

I'm not sure even the GAD line existed back in 2002, this post says it was introduced in 2004.

I am pretty sure that it had 12-53 NB's in the store, so that is what I replaced them with when I got home . . . We'll see if the NB's are really the strings for this piece of wood.
I've only tried three or four different kinds of strings with my D-140, but my favorites have been Martin MA540s (phosphor bronze, light).

Happy NGD!

Beautiful grain below that nicely applied sunburst. ENJOY!
I'd try some John Pearse Phosphor Bronze 12-53 but that is what I like on my acoustics. Always been happy with them.
I have tried other types and brands but the John Pearse seem to never let me down. Hopefully you'll find what makes
that guitar sound as good as looks. Just playing it in and getting to know the guitar is the best part of the journey.
Then you'll know how to really bring its voice forward.
Congrats!
