Not a Guild, sorry, I know you can never have too many. But after purchasing my Godin Seagull 12 string (which I am just loving the heck out of..) I started looking deeper into Godin Guitars. Heard of them through the jazz guitar forum where they are well respected for their jazz boxes at a reasonable price. What I am finding is several lines of Godin Guitars (acoustic, electric, hybrids, whatever) that are really innovative. Also, reading reviews and comments on line from owners and players, seems like they are well loved.

So I settled on a Godin "A" series guitar, the A6 Ultra, special addition Koa. Just got in Monday, just started playing it today. Pretty amazing that they can put out a guitar of this quality (workmanship and materials) at this price point. I am blown away.

Here is a link to the specs:

I am just starting to play with it. Didn't really get a chance to demo it very well before taking delivery, so I kept my options open whether to keep it or not. So far, I am very impressed with the sound I can get from it, either straight acoustic, humbucker, or a blend. You have the option to run it through two different amps, to separate the acoustic from the electric. Haven't tried it yet, will let you know.

This guitar is brand new, full warranty, sold through a local dealer:

Gary, the owner, has been doing this for about two years. He buys guitars in quantity from Godin. Some are brand new (as this one is), full warranty, some are "blems" with a full warranty, and some are repairs. )My Seagull 12 string is a repair, no warranty, but it's a great sounding and playing guitar; and at the price I paid, no worries.) Most of hisbusiness is online and last year he sold over 300 guitars. He's a nice guy and stands behind what he sells.

Thanks to Chris Cozad for guiding me through the Godin selection. He is quite a fan and helped a lot.

Now I realize this is not a Guild. But right now, I'm not able to drop $3-4k on a NH guitar. Someday, but not right now.

These Godin guitars fit the bill and as one owner said to me, are "perfect guitars for the working man musician."

Well, playing this now through two amps. Acoustic through my Roland AC 60 and electric through my Twin Reverb. Can go all or one or a blend. Very pleasing tones and combinations. And this humbucker is loud, very hot. Play-ability is spot on; I need to add a strap, but very comfortable to play, good action, comfortable neck. Only negative is that the tone controls (bass and treble) for the humbucker are kind of small and a little stiff. Can't change the size, but I would expect them to loosen up through use. I don't like the big sticker on the back. Will either peel it off, or flip the plate around if that is possible.

Having a built in pre-amp is pretty cool. Using sliders for the functions on the acoustic side provides instant visual read out of where you have things set. I can imagine that is a big plus when performing in a darkened venue.

I'll admit, I had some buyer remorse bringing it home. Would it do what I expected? Would it live up to it's reputation? Very happy to say it does.

Here is someone showing what this guitar will do better than I can right now.

While I will admit they're cheaper than some guitars, I'd hardly call them "disposable". Seems like a really good value for the money. I like the sound and the versatility. Congrats on the new acquisition!! And thanks for the information and links. :encouragement:

Thanks Tom for the positive feedback. No I wouldn't call them disposable either; someone else did (who shall remain nameless, LOL) on the forum and I couldn't resist. Just put it down after about two hours of playing. I see now why Chris Cozad likes these guitars so much. If you were a solo performer, you can really get a wide variety of guitar sounds out of this A6. The sound really just pops outs. I'm sure the room would take notice. And you would not have to lug a bunch of guitars around. There are a bunch of good videos on this guitar, and they seem to have a strong following.

I paid $690.00 (cash, it was $100.00 more for the Koa top), brand new and Godin Warranty. Don't let the price fool you, its a quality instrument.

All the best,
AJ

I was actually referring to your $250 factory second 12 string as a "disposable guitar" because even minor repair costs will be more than the guitar is worth. The A6 looks nice, but I could never get used to a Fender-type bridge.
