New pickguard installed and she's ready to go. Thanks to Pickguard Heaven and tonepoet.
Here the thread where we talk about what happened to this thing:
https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/s280-on-reverb.215800/

And here she is with the recreated pickguard and new knobs (the originals weren't salvageable).

That's a really cool guitar, 7Guilds, and good job restoring it... But am I seeing rust in all those Phillips-head screws? Is there some way to de-oxidize this thing. Am I seeing rust on the bridge rollers as well, or is that just the coloring of the brass?

Rusty screws are a fairly common thing to find on guitars that were well played. The bridge rollers are brass and a problem I see a lot with Kahlers is those rollers seizing. I don’t know if they required maintenance that no one ever did but in my experience it’s rare to encounter an old Kahler with all of the rollers still able turn.

Very true about the Kahler rollers. They definitely need to be cleaned! I've noticed the same issue that crud buildup prohibits the rollers from doing their job.

Thanks! I used the original screws because I forgot about them with all the pickguard drama but will change them out at some point.
I didn't ask the tech to deal with the Kahler specifically. To me it looks old but looks fine I never use it anyway.
The tech went over everything inside out said everything works.
I ordered a new arm from Kahler so I'll post about how it works.

I noticed some beveling on the middle and bridge pickup covers. They come that way?

Underrated guitars. They’re unique looking for sure but I found them fun to play.
To put on the new pickguard the tech had to damage the original knobs. He put on a generic pair which I hate and the volume one keeps falling off. Any thoughts on how to find replacements? I'm assuming the shafts are 1/4". The knobs are on the shorter side, about 17mm. Taller knobs I got on ebay touch the pickguard. I bought a pair I think will work from Philadelphia Luthier Supply. I would really love to find a pair of originals!

Thanks!

No he didn't, unless someone superglued the knobs to the pots.

Looking at your pics (unless @hansmoust says otherwise) I don't think those were the original knobs, anyway. The original knobs are pretty much unobtanium these days so unless you're itching to make it original I'd just buy whatever you like. If you want the look of the originals, these are the closest I've been able to find:

You can see pics of the original knobs in my reviews:

Here's a closeup pic of the same knobs on a different guitar. They were used on a lot of Guild electrics in the late '80s and early '90s. This guitar is an incredibly rare Guild X4000:

I believe something like that was the case. They were fused to the shaft and would not come off. I could not pull them off when I tried and I was told the tech had a hell of a time with them. I'll post pics of it shortly.

I have seen that wonderful review of yours and the more I read your reviews the more guitars I want to get.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into that and a few other options. The knobs in the above pic of the X400 look just like mine with the 3 levels and the knurls though mine look very worn.

You are correct! Not all Burnsides have them though the ones I've seen without may have had them swapped at some point.

Rust on screws is an upcharge these days.

I think I have a pair of those knobs, ultra lightweight, I've had them on several guitars, because they're light, rather than steel.

Seem to be exactly the same. Scroll down to "Electronics" and "Hardware".
