Ralf, unfortunately the case the Guild chose to include with the Orpheums really isn't befitting a guitar of their price. It's a mid-range TKL case with a rather cheap looking silk-screened logo on it, and aren't nearly as nice as the cases that come (for instance) with the D55s.
Thanks for the feedback. I was already wondering why they used such different silk screen logo on the top of the case instead at least the matching Orpheum headstock script logo. Makes no sense to me to use yet another logo on the case. And I agree, that is not worth a "Custom Shop" guitar! Look how nice the 60th anniversary case looked. Very strange that they used such lower end cases for the Orpheums. But are they really that bad?

Hey, Ralf,

I just wanted to be clear that, in my eyes at least, there's nothing wrong or bad about this case. I'm kind of sorry that I made a point of it earlier in the thread, but it did surprise me.

Sandy's point (I think, and I agree) is just that a special guitar deserves a special case. That didn't happen with the Orpheums.

Sweet gueet Charlie! Good to see some of us are not in need of an exorcism... ;)
I thought long and hard about getting me a piece of N.H. but I just can't do it now.

Sandy, what are that tele and LP doing at your place? You going rogue?

Hey, Ralf,

Sandy's point (I think, and I agree) is just that a special guitar deserves a special case. That didn't happen with the Orpheums.

Precisely my point gents! A guitar this special deserves a proper case, like the 60th Anniversary guitar (or even the D55) has, and there's a certain lady in Texas that concurs with me on this. And yes Ralf, I think they really are that bad. Sure, they protect the guitar, but the don't look like they belong. At all. I will also go further to say that I'm not really enamored of the machine heads either. The ones on my 14 fee Slope D were so bad that Kim K graciously sent me another set of Gotohs that are much better, and I really appreciate that gesture on Kim's part. I still feel that guitars of this price should come with Waverlys. Aside from that, I still can't get over just how good the Orpheum range is, and these aren't really major complaints, more annoying than anything else really.

Sandy, what are that tele and LP doing at your place? You going rogue?

That's just a picture I lifted off of the internet to show what the case looked like Pascal, although technically I do own a Telecaster, in this case a Classic '60s MIM model in sweet Candy Apple Red. It's our communal band guitar right now.

Well, I didn't say I wasn't in need of an exorcism, Pascal.... ;)

I know just the guys to help you with that!.... Bruno? Al?
Not needed, in fact, not even possible.
Jewish guys all get a ritual excorcism on their 8th day of life.
"Once in the morning does it."
This probably explains why you never hear about Jewish guys having multiple excorcisms either.
:abnormal:
Oh by the way, congrats on the new guitar, Chaz!
I'm wondering if the problem with the cases is related to the size (especially with that 12-er headstock) and ultra-low production numbers.
Maybe TKL couldn't deliver cases (especially w/ silkscreens or badges) at a cost-effective price in such small quantities?
That'd be my first guess.

Thanks for the recommendation, Pascal. However as my colleague, Al, has already said: we have nothing to do in this situation.

On the other hand, Charlie's allusion to the need of an exorcism is making me wonder about the reasons of such affirmation... :suspicion:

A hug, gents!
B.

Just wanted to check in and let you know how much I'm enjoying the Orpheum, folks!

After being inspired by Ken's wonderful song and continually soaking in the sounds (and smells) of the new Orpheum I thought I'd take on something challenging. So, I pulled out the sheet music for Larry Pattis' "Waltzing Mathilda" and tuned the Orpheum down to DADGAD... I'm embarassingly bad at reading TAB, but I was so happy when Larry provided the music for me a few years ago. Now, I just have to learn how to play it like him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvMKfkl3YGw The subtlety and clarity of Larry's technique is WAY beyond me, but the song really isn't. We'll see. :)

Congratulations on your OOO 12 SHRW, Charlie! These 12-fret 12-stringers are something special, for sure. I am continually amazed at the sound and playability every time I pick mine up. I can only say good things about it.

AND, twocorgis (Sandy) and I have had many discussions (with sadness) about the poor decision (we know who made the decision at Guild) to go with a less than stellar case for the Orpheums. I'm in the process of looking to buy an upgrade, but the hassle is finding a case that will fit. The Orpheum 000 is not the standard width, so the hunt it on.

Again, congrats, Charlie! And, play it in good health for many years!

I brought the guitar into work this morning, and just having the thing in the case here really smells great. Beats the BO I normally bring in from riding my bike. :)

Seriously, though, the smell of the New Hartford shop is one of those unique aromas that takes my brain thoughts to our LMG events when I catch a whiff.

Same here Charlie! That's why I hardly ever open the tin of coasters that were given out at LMG1. What a heavenly fragrance!

:) My tin barely has the aroma left, Sandy, but that's exactly what I'm talking about. It is a nice smell, but specifically unique to that place.

Charlie, just stumbled upon this thread. That 12'r is beautiful! You are a very brave man to put it into DADGAD however...how long did it take? LOL

Oh, that's not so bad, Bill. It's my playing that's the problem. :) I keep listening to the video of Larry Pattis doing his thing and I'm trying not to be discouraged. :)

This damn guitar is really wonderful though. Really glad I got it!

That is the most square, funkiest coolest looking 000 shape I have seen. Is it really a 000?

I think it is the fact she is a 12-fret and the bridge (and maybe the sound hole) are moved gives it that appearance...I think the same regarding the 12-fret dreads...not just Guild but any brands'...

Hey, if Ren Ferguson says so, I believe it. :)

Plays like a dream, WW.

It was actually described as "orchestra" from the marketing materials and price list that I saw, but the label says OOO. I don't know which designation pre-dates the other, but remember that the inspiration for these guitars is very old-timey. If Martin had made a OOO 12-fret 12-string back in the '30s, it's probably have looked and felt a lot like this. It's just awesome.
