NGD: S300

Let's see, this is S300 number... (checks notes)... <takes a while>... #6 in the collection, and #10 that I've ever owned.



It's in fabulous condition! I also don't think I've ever seen that case insert before. According to the S/N chart it's a 1977. It's got 1-9 Vol/Tone knobs on it and I don't recall seeing those on S300s before. I'd expect it to have the weird TopHat knobs but I also think this is the earliest S300 I've personally encountered so I'd defer to @hansmoust to tell me if the knobs are original.

I think top hat knobs were on 1978 models, not 1977. Just from what I remember without looking for the info....

S300s were ebony. The S60s were rosewood.

My original S300AD ruined me for fretboards forever. So nice.

Yup. First of that body shape in black. Goes nicely with my '94 S100.

It’s an interesting question, though. I think the S300 is heavier. I’ll add a comparison the the list of articles in the queue which just made the queue bigger and more unmanageable, so thanks for that.

I would think the neck pickup at least would need to sound different, 22 vs 24 frets moves the pickup.
