So it’s been a couple of years since I got the body blank for the Nightbird from Beyers in Germany. Then some great parts (bridge, tailpiece, knobs) from Hans, then at last from my friend Patrick J Eggle a recommendation for a builder (Alessandro Velozo from Brazil and Shropshire) to do a classy job putting it together.
For the record, the pickups are Joe Barden original 2 tones from 1996 (I used to be the UK distributor and these were left over). The tuners are new Grover mini-locking, and the fret wire is as close to my original ‘87 Nightbird as could be. Ebony and blue Abalone fingerboard, 16” radius, and European flamed maple to bind. (Interesting that the 40 year-old top in American maple is much darker (see dragged edges!)
It sounds great! More jazz/blues than rock, and easy on the back with its chambered body.
Massive thanks for all the LTG support on this, especially Mavuser, GAD, and of course Hans!
I’ll definitely be recording with it, and will post as I go. Thanks!!
