Replacing original tuners on a 74 D25
I just replaced the original 3 on a plate tuners on my 74 D-25. I installed Grover model V138N (got them for $38). They look very similar to the old Klusen deluxes, and have a good vintage look with nickle plated buttons. The posts fit perfectly, and all but the top attaching screw hole lined up. The new ferrules were slightly bigger than the originals, and wouldnt fit without enlarging the post holes, and I did not want to do that at all. So, I left the original ferrules on, put the 3 screws that fit in, and drilled the top screw hole with a dremel and small bit. The original top screw hole is under the plate, so it can not be seen. I used the original screws. I am not a luthier, but it was a pretty simple fix, made a world of difference, and looks good too. I could twist the old tuners over half a turn without them catching anything.
