I just bought a 6yr old NOS Guild OM 150 and after my initial inspection: it is like flawless in fit, finish and details.
After playing it - I was not feeling too good about the purchase. Tuner keys are nice and tight, smooth and no slop at all.
Was very tough to play though - but had a pretty good sound.
So I started doing a set up since it probably had been sitting for some 6 yrs.
Plastic still on guard and not a mark on it.
After some careful truss rod turning and some nut attention - I was able to finally get it to straighten out nicely.
Still original clean strings on it and was playing a whole lot better. So I played it in and was
actually feeling a lot better. Started to understand the guitar and thought I'd sleep on it.
This morning I finished doing the set up and put some fresh John Pearse strings on it (Phosphor Bronze - my personal favorite)
Now we are getting somewhere. Beautiful over tones and it rings sweetly.
I played it for about 2 hours going through various styles and open tunings.
You couldn't buy it from me for 2K. Yeah that good and I'd put up against most F30R's out there.
24 hours ago I was thinking: what have I bought...no wonder it didn't sell???
Set up, Set up, Set up! Once a guitar has found its' happy place it will feel and speak so much better.
This one just needed some respect.
Buying online is a gamble ...but having said that:
I'm so glad I took the chance and bought this Guild and spent the time to bring it up to par and shine.
GEEZ now I'm thinking I need to keep my eyes open for good one of those OM 120's
