In a few hours Mrs keel and I will head north to summer headquarters, Annapolis, MD. Five months in Fla. over the winter. Seven work filled months in Annapolis. As usual I have to make the decision which guitars make the trip and which ones get stored in Fla.. We are also delivering a second car this year, so I can pack what I want to take rather than shipping a guitar or two. One of the guitars making the trip is a new to me 1969 Martin D12-20. It was unplayable when I got it. Needed braces glued, neck re-set, partial re-fret, among other things. Just got it from the luthier yesterday. Have barely strummed a few chords but first impressions are very good. Off to do more packing...

I believe you will be satisfied with the D12-20 ( see signature  ). I really like mine and the Martin slope shoulder dreads (12 fret) are easier for me to play than the standard 14 fret models. A nice woody sound to it. Starting in about 1968 Martin 12 strings were made to be setup in standard tuning, so if that is your desire, there should be no problem.
Have a good trip

Harmony H-173 bought in 1960 (retired), Alvarez AC60S 2008, Eastman AC320ce 2009 "Hybrid", Guild D25M 1974, Martin Grand J35E 2009, Martin D12-20 1970, Martin OM-21 2009, Martin 00-15M Custom (full body gloss, wide neck) 2011, Voyage-air VAOM-06 2010

Refresh my memory Evenkeel? What is the work you do that moves you each year? Meteorological work?

Perhaps he's a snowbird.

Actually I am a snow bird, just the working kind not the retired kind. My wife and I work for an event production company. We run the Operations end of things. That means we build the shows, manage the events and take it all down after. The "season" is April to end of October so we work like dogs for 7 months and get to recover in Fla. for five. Other than the commute twice a year, a very good gig.

Sweet! When you take your breaks, you've earned them!
I could get into that kind of schedule. :D

Enjoy,
